NIW looks good, EB1B or EB1OR should be possible too. If you need EB1 and you have a permanent position go for EB1OR, other NIW.

99.9% of Ph.D scientists have similar or better credentials...
Haven't you heard of EB1A/B criteria?

Aliens with extraordinary ability are those with "extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim and whose achievements have been recognized in the field through extensive documentation." You must be one of "that small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor," to be granted this classification.

I see that you got your PhD in 2006...

Outstanding professors and researchers are recognized internationally for their outstanding academic achievements in a particular field. In addition, an outstanding professor or researcher must have at least three years experience in teaching or research in that academic area, and enter the U.S. in a tenure or tenure track teaching or comparable research position at a university or other institution of higher education.

The research done during Ph.D. can be used if one can show that the research done was "outstanding".

In any case, the original poster's credentials are weak for an EB1.

the main thing is missing.
how many reference letter you can get?. how many independent, how many cited your work?
this is crucial for EB1EA/OR and for NIW.
Ph.D. has little impact. because most of the people filing under OR needs to have Ph.D. or MD. (even though it is not mandatory but it is required)

Thinking about 6 independent letters and 2 non-independent. 1 used my software for a paper, 1 editor, 1 European Prof and others.

Most my tools are free on the web. Also the Genomes I worked on go to public databases or collaborators. My research is serving the center and not publication-driven any more.

Thanks for all your kindly replies.

EB1-OR has fairly low standards. As long you have a permanent position at a top 100 University even a ham sandwich can get approved under EB1-OR. I have seen people get approved without a single citation. It seems to be a much lower standard than NIW. EB1B seems also pretty doable, again, as long you have the permanent position. EB1A and NIW are the only really tricky categories, from what I can tell. Your milage may vary.

I would suggest you to consult an experienced attorney in EB1/NIW area and evaluate your CV. Some do evalaute CVs for free and some charge.

Good luck with ur case.
