1) My previous I-94 on my passport was till Feb 2000
2) the I-797 i have currently is valid till April 2006 (Previous I797 is valid till March 2004, I did a H1 transfer from that company)

3) My last date of entry into the country was Feb. 1999 when from F1 student visa the passport was stapled with a I-94 till my student visa approval notice date (Feb 2000).

4) Got H1 approved from 07/2001 to 03/2004. But got laid off ON joining.. got new job on 10/2002. So no tax/W2 for 2 years.

5) Should I try fr H1 visa stamping in Chennai saying that I was legal to stay in US since my I94 says March 2004 (or APril 2006)...
I have paystubs/W2/tax forms for 2003 (+ all supporting docs from lawyer and my company) OR

is it safer to try for a BUSINESS TRANSFER visa (L1) as my company has a branch in Bangalore too....

PLEASE HELP!!

Chennai is asking for w-2s for the past 2 years. So it will be a risk to try and get a H1 stamp.

Thanks Jaxen...

Do you think Canada/Mexico is a better option? Do you of anyone who has got thru the interview without the tax forms?
I am in great stress; I will appreciate any valuable information from anybody..

Thanks,
Nikhil.

search the archives for the last year. I dont think the interviews in canada/mexico insisted on W-2s, but not many go there for H1 revalidation.
Only thing goiing for you in canada is your US degree. They are always sympathetic to US degree holders.
Weigh the risk, If L1 is easier, that would be a safer route (ask in the L1 forum too)

ANYBODY knows if it is easier to get Visa in Canada or Chennai??
Is Canada askng for W-2's?? HELP!!

I did NOT file tax on 2001/2002...

Calif,
check out my post under "Visa Stamping in Ottawa in Feb".

I just had my H-1 renewed in Canada. I was not asked for anything, but the guy next to me was asked for W-2's, Pay stubs and letter from employer.
If I were you I would go to Canada. Again I have never been to Chennai, so dont know anything about that conslate.
