I work in Delhi and am planning to go to the U.S. on a business trip. I have a valid business visa on my passport.

My wife would like to join me while I am there in the U.S. She has never been to the U.S. and would be applying for a visitior visa. She also has a job in India and my brother who lives in the U.S. can write an invitation letter and sponsor her.

Has anyone had any experience with a case like this? Would it be better for her to apply for a tourist visa without mentioning my details.

If she says that she would be joining me, what are the documents that I would need to furnish?

Thanks

Marital status has to be mentioned on the DS-156, so your wife has no choice but to mention you. Since she works, why does your brother need to furnish any documents? Your wife should apply on her own and hopefully she will overcome 214(b) on her own. It is as simple as that. Good luck to her.

Follow Up

Would it be better for her to go on her own on a tourism trip and to meet my brother while I am in India. Will it establish a stronger tie to the home country since I am statying back

I am concerned that it will beg the question why I am not accompanying her.

If we both go together, then home country ties may be a concern.

What's your opinion?

If she can overcome 214(b) based on her job and residence in India, then it really makes no difference if you are (or not) accompanying her on this trip.

Visa Approved

My wife's visa was approved today. Thank you all for your advice and opinions. Special thanks to Mr. S.K. Ghori (Tripple Citizen) for his insights and advice.
