hello everyone,
I want to let you know that I have received my plastic card. This marks the 11th anniversary of my decision to apply for asylum. In other words, exactly 11 years ago, I applied for asylum to the USA and 11 years later, I got the plastic card. To be honest with you, I can not enjoy this moment and can not feel excited about it. Perhaps the long wait had depleted my ability to feel happy and to get excited about anything that has to do with INS. They call this phenomenon "learned helplessness" i guess. Anyway, I wish all of you the best and hope that Congress will act and prevent this tragedy from happening again. God bless you all.

First of all congratulations Shamson!

And I agree with you its traumatic to wait for green card that long. And that wait takes away all the excitment once you receive it. But I guess thats the way it is right now and we have to deal with it.
Congrats again!

Regards,

Good luck shamshon and don't worry about that. Just remember that there are some people who are in worst situation or just remember the situation that you were in when you escape your country. It was worthed - I hope ... :(

Congratulations!
Hope, you will start on forgetting INS saga from now... (Well, it's not easy to forgot, plus they can remind us about them at any time, I gess...)
But just be happy in your life, friend!
:) :D :)

shamshon , I am happy for you and hope that this day arrive soon for all of us here.... congratulations....

Shamshon,

Congratulations on recieving your plastic card. Could you please tell us when your dates. I am trying to see the average time from approval notice, passport or card stamp and plastic card issuance. Could you also tell us if it is back dated or not and for how long. The reason I am asking because I had a friend who recieved his card and was 2 years back dated !!!.

First of all, thanks to everyone. You are all right; I need to enjoy my life and think of how things would have been worse for me. Here is the timeline for my saga:
Arrived to America: september 1st 1992.
Applied for asylum: september 15th 1992.
Granted interview: February 96 (with the help of a Senator).
Immigration judge approved my case: september 12 1997
Applied for I 485 and receipt date on october 5th 1998
Request for fingerprints: october , 7th 2002
Case approved: february 2003.
card received may 2003 but then they messed up and did not backdate my card for a year
Card corrected and sent: september 15th 2003
Exactly 11 year after my intitial application for political asylum.

hope this helps and thanks again everyone.
