If I have an emergency and I have to go back in Canada by plane...where it's the best to buy a plane ticket?

And can I take the plane to go without passport (PDX to YUL)? To come back I know I will need my passport than I was thinking to do (YUL to BC and take a bus to PDX from there)...or ask Passport Canada a prouve that I asked for it to be renew, do it work?

I still have my TN with me.

Thanks

You might have problems boarding a flight to Montreal from PDX without a passport. An ticketing agent might decide not to issue you a boarding pass due to your lack of having a passport. I would advise you to enter Canada via land, get an emergency passport made and then return to the US via air.

There is no requirement for passport to leave US to go to canada. Drivers license is fine. neither from the airline nor Cdn immigration point of view.

But coming back by air requires PP or US green card, no letter from canada will will suffice.

You can get your PP in Canada, if you have time, in less than a week, with return ticket.

You only need the passport to enter the US by air, if you plan to enter by bus your birth certificate (or citizenship certificate if you are a naturalized canadian) will do.

Do I require a passport to travel to the U.S.?

Since January 23, 2007, a new American law requires everyone entering the United States BY AIR to have a valid passport.

Canadians can continue to use such documents as their birth certificates and drivers' licence to cross the Canada-U.S. border BY LAND AND SEA for at least another year.

I should clarify that, in support of triple's comment, that while there is no requirement for cdns travelling to Canada by air to have passports, some airlines, most notably Air canada have overstepped their authrity and insist that ALL travellers going BETWEEN Canada and US, must have passports (except, ironically for US citizens).

Don't fly air canada, and you will be fine.

Totally agree. There is no requirement by CIC that the OP enters Canada on his/her passport. However an overzealous/stubborn ticketing agent can create problems. Thus if the OP is willing to cross in one direction by land and one by air, I would suggest that he/she reverses the order. This is based on the assumption that the OP will have a new passport upon return.

Besides, if one is really going to fly across one way and drive across the other , it would be best to just drive across in both directions, and then purchase a return ticket.

"Open-jawed" tickets are not usually as cheap as simple return itineraries.
