Permanent Residence since?

Need some clarification on this.

When is the date of permanent residence if I-485 is not approved on the date of interview pending on name check.

Is it from the date I-485 approved or the date of interview?

I would think, that it starts once the I-485 approved, which won't happen until namecheck clears and the IO is happy with the interview and is approved by him/her or his/her supervisor.

Thanks for your reply.

That is what I would think too. But I read somewhere in the forum, the date of permanent residence starts from the date of interview provided that the interview was satisfactory.

I really hope it is the case. I would really hate to waste more time to become a US citizen because of pending name check.

I think whoever said that was half/right. If the interview is satisfactory, you may or may not be approved there. On the Spot.

And the interview can be satisfactory, but you are pending namecheck.

So only when the I-485 is approved. Is that your residency should start. But do not worry, it will state the date clearly on your GC.

Normally your "resident" date is the one you eventually see printed on your GC. At the end of the day, you've probably got at least 3yrs (maybe 5) to wait until the date becomes really significant when you apply for natz.

You will have a brand new name check at that stage too. It is possible that your N-400 name check may be even longer that your I-485 name check, so just be mentally prepared for it.

I would really hate to waste more time to become a US citizen because of pending name check.
