Passport question

I'm getting ready to apply for Naturalization, and I have a passport question. But first, a little on my background; I entered the United States in 1989 with Student Visa, I got my permanent residency through marriage in 2007, and now I'm getting ready to apply for Citizenship.

I lost my passport years ago, and I only have a photocopy of it. I tried ordering a new passport from the Lebanese consulate, but the process was too complicated, and I eventually gave up on the process.

Two years ago, I applied and got a USCIS Travel Document, so I could travel to China on a business trip. I still have this travel document, it shows the Chinese Visa, and the departure and entry stamps.

Would not having my passport be an issue with the IO, at the time of the interview?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

As far as I know it should not be a problem. Did you file for a police report that your passport was lost/stolen? If yes, having a copy of that report might be helpful during the interview.
 
I never filed for a police report, also this happened a long time ago, and for a while, I was not even aware that the passport is lost until I started looking for it.
 
I recall reading about a case where the applicant lost his passport and it was not an issue, but I am not 100% sure. You might want to call the USCIS 1-800 line or if possible schedule an infopass appointment to double-check with them.

Please let us know how it goes since this will be very useful info for future applicants.
 
If you lost your passport, you can TRY to file a police report, but if that doesn't work, explain your situation and take your REP and you will probably have no problems. This is, assuming, that your travels since becoming an LPR have been on your REP.
