Passport not stamped on entry into USA on GC

Hi,

I entered USA two days back on GC.My passport was not stamped whereas my wife's passport was stamped with entry date.

Is this common or a mistake ?

It's very common, everywhere, not just in the US. They still have a record of your entry probably, so just keep evidence of it (boarding pass). No worries.

I don't know whether my passport is machine readable or not.

I have Indian passport issued from Indian consulate in New York.

A machine readable passport has some numbers and chevrons at the bottom of the data page. Anyway, they would have scanned your GC. Even if they didn't, just keep records of your entry into the US.
 
The first couple of pages that show your information in your passport. Are they computer printed and is there a barcode somewhere in there?

Reason I am asking is I am planning a trip too, and I read somewhere that they may not stamp passports that are machine readable, they just scan them.

There is no bar code on my passport and all information is hand written.

Biographic page on my passport was scanned and then my wife's passport was stamped.
 
How did they scan your biographic page? There is NO barcode. It looks something like this:

<<<DHIRENDRASH<<M<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<IND<<<<<
<<<<<M56718<<<V763859367<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

That's the machine readable zone. Of course, it's just an example. Do you have that?
 
The below format is not a passport barcode format. This was the format for US stamped visa on my passport

I could not what page was being scanned.The above format code is on my US Visa page and NOT on the biographic info page on my passport.

Then, you do NOT have a machine readable passport. The IO may have scanned your GC. Your visa is not valid anymore, am I right?
