Passport is lost, what to do with the citizenship application??

My friend is also asylum greencard and now needs to apply citizenship, but his passport is recently lost and could not be renewed because of asylum status.

He is very worred because the citizenship application& interview guide shows "passport" as necessary item.

Anyone has experience for this? Much thanks!!

A lot of people on asylum don't even have a Passport, he should file explain the situation at the interview, he will do just fine.
