just to add, when I used to travel to the US (when I was based in Canada) , I generally had an invitation letter that clearly mentioned that I wont be paid by any US sources. They mostly didnt ask for it but I had it just in case. Also working on B1 and getting paid by US sources is a big no-no. Perhaps what nelsona said might work i.e. "likely a statement saying that they were paying your Cdn company"
Correct. Obviously no one works for free, and CBP knows this. The important thing is to not be paid directly, which is easily done through a company. It doesn't have to be corporation, just your own registered company
