Guru,

I'll take my oath on June 13, but now I want to complete online form and print for passport application for June 13. Anyone knows if online completion of form trigger any online submission? Before June 13th, I am not official U.S. citizen yet. Do you see any issues if I complete the online form and print out before June 13?

Anyone have done this online form (DS -- 11) for passport application? See the web link of Department of State below.

Thanks.

My wife got her citizenship about a week and a half ago. Last week she went to a passport acceptance agency to submit her DS-11. She did the online DS-11 since it fills out the form neatly and creates a 2-D bar code on the application which makes it easier when it is processed by passport services. All passport services needs to do is scan the bar code and all of the information on the DS-11 comes up. Doing an online completion of the form doesn't trigger an submission since it needs to be printed out and signed only when directed to do so by the acceptance agent.

I helped my wife make sure she had all the documents she needed when she went to the passport acceptance agency to file her DS-11, that the agent was impressed that my wife was well prepared and was able to review and sign off on my wife's application in about two minutes.

A lot of the Post Offices in my area that act as a Passport Acceptance Agency require an appointment. Most of the locations that we called where booked two to three weeks in advance. So, you might want to look at http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ to see if locations in your area require appointments and start calling around to see if you can get one for after June 13.

Word of the wise: Make sure the check (or money order) that is payable to the Department of State for the government fees has your name and date of birth in the memo line. Make a copy of your photo ID (Drivers License) of both the front and the back since the copy needs to go with the DS-11. Make copies of your naturalization certificate since the original certificate will go to Passport Services with the DS-11 and will be mailed back to you after your passport has been issued. Have one passport size photo available. Check with the acceptance agency on how the $25 execution fee can be paid. Lastly, DO NOT sign the DS-11 until directed to do so by the acceptance agent.

Thanks. As a matter of fact, online form asks if your spouse a U.S. cititzen, my wife will not be a U.S. citizen until June 13, the same as me. If I answer NO now it is right because she is not now before June 13, but on June 13 she will take the oath and we apply for passports on the same day; on that she is U.S. citizen.
It seems that the online form will keep applicant's record, so if I complete form online before June 13 and claim me and my wife as U.S. citizens, it seems not right either. If the online form does not record your data and just a fillable online form, that is ok. We will apply for passports right after the oath and will have international travel in about 5 weeks.
I know we will not sign the forms until we hand over our forms and sign them as instructed to do so.

What is last step to finish your online form, like submit? Anyone can remember? I do not want to take the risk of claiming myself as citizen on the form before June 13 if the applicant's data is recorded and tracked.

Go ahead and fill the form out online. You're not going to be signing it before you take the oath anyway.

I think you will be fine. During the oath ceremony while people were waiting there was an announcement that you can fill your voter registration form but don't sign it. you can only sign once you have taken the oath. I think same applies to the passport form as well.

It's not being submitted. It's being filled out, after which you will print it. If you're worried, print out a couple of blank forms and take them with you to fill out after you take your oath.

Thanks all for the inputs. We just save the time to apply for passports since we will travel abroad in 5-6 weeks after oath and have air tickets booked. Not sure how long will take to get passports and will choose expidite service. Let me know your lead time to get passports.
