Ottawa Embassy TD Question

Hello guys,

I am a Canadian engineer, just got my TN visa 2 weeks ago, but since my wife is not Canadian (PR holder), I was told to make an appointment at the closest consulate which happened to be in Ottawa. The earliest appointment was today (2-week waiting period).

When we got to the window, the officer checked everything, My TN, my degree, our marriage contract, our daughter's birth certificate, and then said everything is fine, but he needs to send the application to Washington DC for an (Interagency Check). My cousin's wife got her TD in the same day few years back, and I am wondering would a TD really require such a check? and if it does, which is totally fine by me, how long does it take to complete and for them to issue the visa (the officer kept the passport, and made me pre-pay for the courier delivery), My employer has been waiting for me for almost 3 weeks, and I truly think it will tick them off if I delay it any further. Please help

First I've heard of this. Could it be her birth country that is causing this. natives of Highly-muslim countries receive special treatment

I am not too sure, maybe, but given that she's a Canadian PR, and she's traveling with a Canadian husband and daughter, and that TD is only a 1 year visa!! it was quite strange. Anyway, I respect their choice, but would this be a quick check? or is it going to be long? thanks

they have been doing this for a while now. people from countries they consider high risk get this nice feature which may take sometime (longest i have seen was 3 month) good luck. there is nothing anyone can do until they get the security check results from States.

Holy c***, and what is the shortest you have heard of? I hope it won't take that long for a TD visa for my wife, it is ridiculous, our stay in there is temporary in nature, and TN/TD are meant for Canadians and their spouses, so "some" consideration should be applied there!:(

Macedonia! Wow I can't believe they would need something special for someone from there. Seems like a peaceful place.

But she has an Arabic name, as many in the southern Europe (Mediterranean) communities bear Arabic or Arabic sounding names !! You think this might've had an impact?

That might be the problem. They are one of the break-away places of the old Yugoslavia, and with one third of the population Muslim it can create a name problem.

I see your dilemma.
