Orlando interview experience - what's next? VERY NERVOUS

Hey guys...So glad I found this forum. Today I had my interview and am very nervous about the results. To make it short it went like this:

Was called in by the officer very quick. Besides the questions on the N-400, she started asking me about the previous marriages and taxes. I was so nervous that when the off. asked me when I got married the first time, I kept saying '03. She asked me 3 times and then I realized that I am saying the wrong year and apologized, reiterating that it was in 2002. I also forgot the month of my last trip outside US and said July; where she asks me that it says it was May. Then I again apologized for being so nervous and said that I forgot. Then another bump: I thought that I didn't register with the Selective Services and sent them a letter with my N-400 explaining why I didn't. Well, after sending the application, I inquired with SES and they said that I was registered. I explained that to the officer and provided the proof of registration; she was a bit confused. Then she went to the civics test: 6 questions passed and then the writing passed. At the end of the interview she printed out some papers and made me sign in few places and on my two pictures. Then she said something like this: congratulation, you passed the...test (I think); You will receive our decision in the mail. I asked when and she said "usually within 2 weeks.

She took my divorce paper, the marriage certificate and the Selective service registration letter, and told me that a decision letter will be mailed to me within 2 weeks.

Please HELP: anybody with such experience? Do you think I might have some problems with it?

Thanks

From what you described, it seems that you passed the test and will receive your oath letter in a few weeks. What are you worried about?

i think he's worried because there was no clear indication of if he passed the interview (?)...because the IO just said "...passed the xxx test"?
and she said "you'll receive the decision" in the mail...what does she mean by "decision" .. shouldn't that have been "oath letter"?
perhaps he's worried about that...

he should've politely asked her, really: e.g.: did i pass the IV? will i be getting my oath letter? what do you mean by "decision" will be mailed? which "decision" do you mean? etc etc

you are right

Thx Washburn27. You are right. I did ask her if I'll be getting my oath ceremony letter. She just smiled and repeated that a decision letter will be mailed. Then I asked when and she said usually 2 weeks. I also asked her if there any problems or documents she might need. She said no, everything looks fine. I am thinking they might want to verify the documents she took from me, just to make sure they are liegit.

only thing which confuses me is that how can we be sure the she uses the term "decision letter" for meaning "oath letter" ... i wish she had been more specific...if she meant "oath letter" of course all is fine, she didn;t think your wrong answers were a problem...
Other people here who have more expertise may chime in, let's wait and see...that word "decision letter" bugs me, though...

of course I tend to worry too much, too, about things like this..

you can perhaps try to call the CS number and try to get an IO on the phone OR schedule and Infopass, after 2-3 weeks if you don't hear from them, and ask what really is going on.

PS: I really think it's good that you told her you were nervous; she might not have evaluated your wrong answers in a negative way, hopefully. it sounds like she was nice, so hopefully she'll understand about being nervous. try not to worry too much.

The problem is that I did not have wrong answers. I was just very nervous and confused the answers. She actually helped me with the answers by giving me leading questions. Now that I am calm, think that they might need to verify the new supportive documentation that she took. I hope that's all.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I hope it is as you said.

Guys,

I am wondering: Why she did not give me an N-562? I thought they should give this form to every one after the interview.

You are absolute right; if you don't have that N-652 then You can't prove your interview cuz I assume that they took the IV letter. I wonder why you havn't gotten the N-652; maybe the DO was as confused as you were to get ya the form:)

perhaps zuzkin made a copy of the IL before going to the IV ?
or: it's possible that the situation didn't warrant a N652 .. it's difficult to say for sure

The IO must give you a copy of the N-652 at the conclusion of the interview...it's your evidence that you attended the interview. The IL is not proof that you attended interview.

Bobsmyth,

I read the operating instruction for the IOs and you are right; they have to give me the form N-562. I called an aquintance of mine (a US citizen now)and she told me that she did not get the form too, but was told "see you at the ceremony". From reading those instructions, I am very inclined to think that she had to get the case run by her supervisor or a senior IO to verify the legitimacy of the documents provided during the interview (divorce papers and Selective service letter). This is the only logical explanation to this issue. In a bad case scenario she would not have told me that I passed the test. To deny the case using the bad morale argument based on just the fact that I was nervous and said a wrong year for my first marriage or that I registered with SES and did not know that is very less likely.

I think you should print those instructions off, highlight the passages about the N652, make an infopass and explain to them what happened and show them that document.

Dang; I'm gonna take a copy of those instructions when/if I go to my interview someday; that way, if they don't give me anything and I have to come back, I can show it to them and ask why I'm not getting a N652...seriously.
(Thanks, Bobsmyth)
