My OPT/F1 status will expire Jan 11, 2005.
My H1 petition was approved sometime in August 2004, and will begin taking effect Jan 01, 2005.
Now, I have found out that my OPT/F1 status has been terminated in Aug. due to the approval in change of status to H1.
Is this right?
If it is.. won't there always be a lapse, since we won't know when they will approve the H1? And won't that make a lot of people out of status??
Please advise.

Since your OPT expires on Jan 11, 2005, your attorney requested start date as Jan 01, 2005 instead of Oct 1, 2004. You are not out of status.Christina

However, somehow which I believe is a mistake, my SEVIS record shows that my F1/OPT status has been TERMINATED on Aug.
So..applying to grace period, I would be out of status from say Nov-Jan??
Please advise. Thanks a lot!!
 
My international student office checked my status on SEVIS and realised that my F1 status has been terminated under CLAIMS or something like that.
Any suggestion??
