OPT Expires Mar 2007, H1 missed this FY

My employer delayed applying for the H1 for FY 2007 in Masters Quota and now I pay the price of having to sit 6 months of my life doing nothing. My OPT expires on Mar 30 2007 and I cannot start work till OCt 2007 . I was advised to enroll in a course like a 1 year MS program or Kaplan so that I get an I 20 for the 6 month period.

My question is say I apply for a H1 in april 2007 and it gets approved before Oct 2007. Would I remain in status till I can start work? or does approval mean that I lose my F1 status. Please clarify.

Also does anyone have an idea what sort of 1 year MS programs are offered in universities? since I have the time Id rather use it to gain something rather than fill it with a stop gap such as Kaplan which has no value addition
 
You need to be enrolled in school during gap between H1 approval and H1 start date, otherwise, you are considered out of stauts.

Another question I had was if i get my kaplan i 20 on march 25 or so and this i 20 is for 6 months meaning it will expire on sept 25. This would leave me out of status for 6 days till oct 1st.. is there a 60 day grace period after the kaplan course is over??

please clarify any1
 
Can you continue work during that Gap period?

But even if you enroll to a program and get an I-20 for the gap period can you still maintain your employment or still have to stop working until Oct. 1 2007?

I am in a similer situation that is why I am asking....

dcdc Once you join a course as a fulltime student you have to automatically stop working. You can only work 20 hours on campus as per regular F1 norms.

However if your university gives you a fulltime CPT from the date of joining you can continue to work and attend classes on weekends or something. For this you need to talk to your school DSO. It is purely discretionary as they must be sufficiently convinced that the CPT is a required part of your course.

I have a unique problem.... I had enrolled for PhD at an university but didnt find it really intersting so joined co-op intern from June end. Now I am working on CPT till December. If my university permits I might make it till May-June next yr(2007).But my problem is how would I maintain my status from there till Oct 2007 without leaving my employer. My 1 year CPT period would end by June and wont be able to continue working any further. Any suggestions how to cover the period from June to Oct with the same employer before H1 would come into play....
