I am currently on F1 studying in my last semester with
only project left.
Now company wants to hire me full time at the
earliest.
Now I am going to apply for OPT to be eligible to
work.
My earlier plan was to apply for OPT starting from Jan
after I graduate. But now company wants me to apply
for it. But at the same time they have not made an
official offer.
My first question is: how much time it takes for OPT
work authorization or EAD to come so that I can start working.
Second question is: what start date on OPT form should I put and
how much difference it makes if I put say Oct 15 or
Jan 1. Because this present company may hire someone
else and I may end up utilizing my 2 months of OPT
without actually working. So next year while H1
process is going on how does this start date affect
that.
My third question: does anyone know if SEVIS system
has been updated recently because I have seen people
changing their company in CPT, but I am told by my
school advisor that SEVIS doesn't let you change the
company once you have an I20 for a semester with one
company. My intention was to work as an intern full
time with that company till I get my OPT. But my
advisor refused. Is it a general issue or just my
school.
Fourth question: if I get my OPT before my CPT expires in my last semster of graduation, and say I don't have an offer till then, can I continue to work on my CPT or I will be left with nothing to do
Fifth question: now if I don't have an offer when my EAD comes, can I start working with the same company I was working with on CPT, this time on OPT. And if yes, can I work part time i.e. 20 hrs on OPT.
