One year H1B visa

I was selected for an H1B visa this year. However the duration of the visa is only one year. Is this the norm? When im completing the DS 156 form, what should i write where it says how long do you intend to stay in the US.

The H1B is valid as long as the employer requested it (3 years max). It can be renewed to a total of 6 years.

your employer filed for 1 year or attached LCA for 1 year or on form asked for 1 year or it can be mistake of Lawyer who filed. you can ask your employer or check with lawyer who filed they have copy of of all that was sent to USCIS
