Hi,

I filed I-485 by myself. I just found out there was a mistake on my I-485 filling. The question: "Were you inspected by a U.S. Immigration Officer? Yes or NO? " I answered "No".

So if it was a wrong answer, what could I do? write a letter to make correction? Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate it.

I-485: ND, May/2002
FP: June/2003.

It is a serious error. IF you answered "NO" USCIS will assume that you entered US without inspection in which case 485 will be denied.
Call the customer service center to find out how to correct this error. Worst case withdraw your application and re-file.
In hindsight it is always a good idea to have someone else review the application before sending it.

tgs,

There should be some solution. As nkm said, call the customer service center or consult with an attorney.

How did you realize after 2 years that you made a mistake? Did you get any RFE?

Thank you for help.

I thought "inspection" is a kind of suspicious check when I was filling, so I answered "No". But today I accidentally read somebody post: should answer "yes".

I did not get RFE for I-485.

Wait for the RFE, if any. If you have an I-94 card and you put down the number on the I-485 it'll be pretty obvious that you were inspected upon entry.

Do NOT withdraw and re-file, unless you want to wait another 2 years and waste money.

I agree. DO NOT withdraw the application as yet. There should an easier solution.

A very brilliant mind came up with those questions. I think one of the questions (in some form) is something like "Are you a terrorist?"

Sorry I didn't realize that 485 was filed in May 2002. It is better to wait for an RFE. Again, worst case USCIS will send an "Intent to deny" letter and you can respond to it with documentation proving that you indeed were inspected and issued an I-94.

tgs,
i dont think it is a big mistake . As long as you stayed in US with valid status, it should be fine. In worst case, they may send RFE and you can always prove that you entered US legally and inspected on arrival. In best case scenario, they may not even read that question and aprove your case.

Hi tgs,

Don't worry. Call the USCIS 1-800 number and tell them that you had a typographical error. They will correct it, orelse they will ask you to send a letter. My friend has done this before.
Good luck.

Just say that you were inspected and drove in from Canada as a passenger in a car. No record of these inspections.

You're asking him to lie to USCIS (which carries with it a permenanet, non-waiverable bar of re-entry if detected) when he doesn't have to?????

He was inspected. He has an I-94 to prove it. All he needs to do is sit tight until USCIS kicks back something.

I called National Service Center. I was told CIS will not deny my case, but I may receive a RFE or interview request. I will be fine after I provide document if asked. I don't need to write a letter to explain, just wait for response from TSC.

Thank you for all of your help. Hope to see more 485 approvals.
