I am here on H1B , and working for a reputed company. I have applied for SSN which now is taking 2 months to process. Company says it has policy not to pay till ssn comes....
Is this valid ? Is there any other option through which the company can pay me without me being on their rolls ?
This is a reputed company and they gave me the appointment letter on the day I joined.
Will I be considered out of status ?
If I am not paid for 2 months will my H1b become invalid ...
Can i work as a contract employee.. If anybody could pass me the details of a good lawyer, please do..

Any reply will be greatly appreciated

have you joined them?

I dont think SSN is a strict requirement for getting the salary. And if you do not get paid , yes your h1 may become invalid. There are many reputed lawyers (including this site's). You can also contact ISN.org

SSN is important to most companies when in comes to salaries. If you can manage to support yourself then be patient and wait for your SSN, if not try to negotiate with your employer and give you some allowance for the mean time. I don't think your H1-B will be invalid since you'll get paid when your SSN comes so you don;t have to worry about that.
