So I have been waiting an extremely long time to get a receipt notice for my application for my wife's green card and work permit. The checks have gone uncashed for more than three months. I was at the point of deciding to start over and send a brand new application, assuming the old one got lost, but then I received a strange message from my attorney.
The attorney claims he received a letter asking for the "new" medical forms, because apparently USCIS opened our application and found that we had mailed the "old" forms. The lawyer said we have to go back to the doctor and get them to type up some new forms, and then we have to send the medical forms alone to the USCIS.
Could there be any truth to this, or is my lawyer just full of crap and stalling for more time? The checks have still not been cashed and I have still not received a receipt number. I intend to call the USCIS tomorrow to have them manually lookup my receipt number by name. If no receipt number exists, then this would mean the application was never received and opened, right? The main reason I am skeptical about this medical forms issue is because I thought the USCIS would cash the checks immediately, even if they were requesting more information before processing could begin.
Any thoughts on this?
