"Old" Medical Forms

So I have been waiting an extremely long time to get a receipt notice for my application for my wife's green card and work permit. The checks have gone uncashed for more than three months. I was at the point of deciding to start over and send a brand new application, assuming the old one got lost, but then I received a strange message from my attorney.

The attorney claims he received a letter asking for the "new" medical forms, because apparently USCIS opened our application and found that we had mailed the "old" forms. The lawyer said we have to go back to the doctor and get them to type up some new forms, and then we have to send the medical forms alone to the USCIS.

Could there be any truth to this, or is my lawyer just full of crap and stalling for more time? The checks have still not been cashed and I have still not received a receipt number. I intend to call the USCIS tomorrow to have them manually lookup my receipt number by name. If no receipt number exists, then this would mean the application was never received and opened, right? The main reason I am skeptical about this medical forms issue is because I thought the USCIS would cash the checks immediately, even if they were requesting more information before processing could begin.

Any thoughts on this?

It was done in February, so it's a bit more than 3 months old at this time. I know it didn't expire, but my attorney led me to believe that perhaps the form has changed and we submitted the old form by mistake. Could this be true? Has there recently been a change to the form? I can't think of any other reason why the USCIS would make such a request.

Oh, snap. Well then, I really did submit the old form. Would they not accept the old form if the application was dated prior to April 2nd? I would have thought they would just accept the form from February since the application is dated from February. It's not my fault they sat on my application for several months before opening it, so why should I have to do extra work because of their system being so slow?

Well whatever, I will submit the new form tomorrow. Given that the USCIS has requested the new form, does that mean my case should now have a receipt number? Or will the receipt number not get generated until I submit the new form?

Thanks.

I got the new medical form today. My lawyer is going to send it, but I don't really trust the lawyer anymore. Can someone please tell me where the new medical form should be sent (CSC? Chicago? NBC?). I am assuming they are holding the rest of the application while they await the arrival of the medical form, so where would the application be at this point? I don't want another screw-up with sending stuff to the wrong place and having to wait another 3 months.

This is the problem. I am completely out of the loop right now, and to make matters worse, my attorney is now hospitalized with cancer. His business is being carried out by his assistant right now.

From what I understand, the attorney's assistant received an email specifically about my case, asking for the additional form to be sent. I am not sure if the email contains instructions about where to send the form. This is why I am asking for the community's advice. I have asked the attorney's assistant to let me know where the form is being sent before sending it. That way, I can make sure it doesn't get sent to the wrong place again. I need to know where the form should be sent, so I can make sure the assistant is sending it to the correct place. I don't want it getting sent to CSC like the original application, because that resulted in a ridiculous delay.
