old employer threatening.... switched job after 180 days of filing I485

Hi,
I have joined the client after 180days of filing of I485 as I had only option "Join/Leave" . Looking around the mkg situation , I immediately joined the client .Now my old employer is threatening me to pay large amout otherwise he will go to court .
I don't understand what will happen . How to handle the situation if I get any court notice?
Please guide me if anybody has gone thru such type of situation.

As far as GC is concerned, you are sure to get it without problem.

Your problem is more like a labor problem. If you work in an at-will state like CA, I don't think there is anyway your employer can stop you from joining any employer even though your contract had a clause to penalize you from doing so.
 
1. you are Ok for GC , no problems
2. What kind of Contract you signed with Employer? it is mostly for 12 months did you left him after the contract date was over?

Nothing will happen, your past employer is just trying to get some amount by threatening you. Many Employers have tried this trick in past

Only reply to him when he/she send any notice to you.
Meet some good lawyer and show him your Contract/aggreement copy.

I had 18 months contract and its already over 1 year back.
This contract I had signed in India after that I didn;t sign anything .The contract also shows , I cann;t join any direct or indirect client.
The most interesting thing is , I had signed the aggreement with employer X back in India but got everything ie. VISA, Paystug,GC from employer Y ( which is belonging to same employer).

I don't know if it is good point for me or not.

Please shade some light on it.

I have got certified mail from my old employer stating that "You have to pay the GC expenses $7000.00 before 25th Nov . If you are fail to do so we will cancel you GC process effective from that day"
Is that scary?Can he cancel the process?
What kind of reply I need to give her or just need to keep quite..What will help me out correctly and safely.
I haven't informed my lawyer yet .
Is there anybody who will tell me the steps to handle such type of situation.

Send him a letter saying that this material would be produced at the local county magistrate office to demonstrate explicit intent to extort. There is no legal ground of his claim due to the fact that your 485 has passed 180 days and your contract was not validated in this country. Unless he wants to go to International Labour Court to enforce your contract, which has also become null and void, there is nothing your employer can do except give you more option to file case against him for extortion, scam and possibly INS violation.

On the contrary, I think this is a perfect opportunity for you to bring this type of companies to their knees.
 
I donot think your employers protestations are valid and he is just trying to scare you talk to your lawyer just to be sure but honestly i donot think
he can do anything

1. Sunny J is correct, your employer can not do any thing to your GC as you crossed 180 days. He can not cancell the process now.
asking for GC processing Fees is illegal and INS violation, you are not supposed to pay him.
Better keep quite or send reply as Sunny J told and keep the employer letter with you. he may try to send other letter after 25th ignore it
If you have your own lawyer talk to him.
no need to be scared you are safe.

7K LOL ... Pay that 7k along with email and further emaila to good lawyer You will reep in 700000 easily. Some compnies think they can just yell at employee and get the things.
