AFP check is copy only because the paper it's printed on is not relevant. What they want is the QR code as the check is completed by them online as it is a digital verification.
For other nations they may not be digital, and in those cases, the paper itself is verification of authenticity, hence original and copy required.
The AFP paper certificate with fingerprints which is the one we need does not have a QR code. You can see the example here. I think the checklist is just a mistake likely based off when they used to use the digital police certificate not the new rule paper one with fingerprints.
I’m just going to scan it and send the original and copy. You can do what you like. But there is no QR code for an AFP certificate with fingerprints.

They seem to really be pushing through this quickly in Australia this year. I wonder if it's a change of staff, a change of directive, or just lots of people not perusing it this year.

Well there aren't as many Aussie winners as there used to be (only about 10 cases per 100). Then there are probably some that won't be that attracted to the USA right now.
Has anyone done their medical at Medical One in Sydney?

The bottom of their email says you need to have a negative COVID test the day of, before they will see you. (For a fee of course) Is that really still a thing or is it just a leftover statement from COVID days?
Would be a disaster for us if we turned up, got a false positive and couldn't reschedule for another months time!

This tells me you have not received your AFP Digital Certificate. I'm not going to argue with you. I am well ahead of you in the process.
When the AFP digital certificate arrives (via email), and you see the QR code at the top right, you will realise your assertion is incorrect. Even the paper version you linked to also has a QR code. Please stop misleading other people with false information.
And if you do not accept what I am saying, then refer to the US reciprocity page here

Yes, reception will ask to physically see the negative COVID test when you arrive.
They will also physically take your passport, which is put into your 'file folder' and given to the nurse, who does your ID, vitals and urine collection, before seeing the physician.

Ok, Thanks @Happy2BeHere, good to know. Guess we better make sure we get one then! We've been outside Australia for the last 3 years, I thought they'd gotten over COVID but I guess not!

I think it is dependent on individual medical practice. Some still require masks to be worn, some do not. MedicalOne does not require mask wearing, but does require a COVID test.
Edit: Are you coming back to Australia just for the medical?

I’m not arguing with you….nor am I misleading anyone with false information…
Does your digital certificate include a fingerprint check?
I’m merely confused because the AFP website states a fingerprint check is paper certificate only.
The paper certificate does NOT have a QR code.
The pdf I listed does not have a QR code and the AFP website also states the authenticity checklist for paper certificates and a QR code is not listed there either.
The ONLY police certificate with a QR code is a digital certificate (which does not cover a finger print check).
Did you order 2 separate police checks?
1. digital with no fingerprint check, and
2. paper with fingerprint check
Or
Did you order 1 (paper with fingerprint check) and automatically received both a paper certificate AND digital certificate?
Because on the application there is no option for both deliveries, so I’m quite baffled how that happened. Unless it’s simply not stated and automatically done that way?
As for the US website, the page is identical to what it was before the change they just added the line about now needing a fingerprint check. There is no digital certificate with a fingerprint check. Unless it’s option 2 above where the AFP automatically sends both paper and digital from 1 paper application?
Does your digital certificate have a fingerprint check? Or did you complete 2 separate police checks?
Because if so then we are talking about different things. I’m talking about the fingerprint check and you’re talking about the digital with no fingerprint check.
I’ve also just emailed AFP to have them confirm “how to get a AFP police check with fingerprint certificate with a QR code” because something does not align here.

Did you get the see any of the result paperwork going into your sealed envelope?
I wonder what they do with all SIX photos. I guess put one on each result page to identify you?
Six photos! That’s more than Algeria and Algeria constantly asks for photos!
I’ve done a lot of these and burst out laughing when I saw the 6 photo requirement!
Just go down the list and tick what you have (copy or original or both), write 'N/A' if not applicable, pick either education or work experience for qualifying. Then print name, and tick relevant statement boxes.

The PDF you linked to only serves to illustrate the physical security features of the paper the certificate is printed on eg. embossing, watermarks, invisible ink - nothing else The QR code is printed, hence it doesn't appear on the PDF.
To get the fingerprint + name check you can only apply by post using the offline form. Unfortunately I can't paste a direct link but it's under the "How to Apply > By Post" section of the AFP website. You're applying for both the digital certificate and hard copy with the form there.
On page 2 in the middle you'll find "Section 6: Mailing address for police certificate" where you indicate where you want the copy mailed to you.
I received my digital certificate the other day and I can confirm it has a QR code in the top right corner. Presumably the hard copy is on its way to me in the mail but I expect it to have the same QR code.
That's because I also obtained a name check only paper certificate a couple of months ago (before I was aware of the need for fingerprints) - and it has a QR code.
I think it's safe to assume all AFP certificates - digital and paper - will have a QR code, and maybe the website text needs to be updated to clarify...
