Oath Notice - Not received - next step?

I had my interview on May 29th 08 and I passed the test. The IO then handed me the N-652 and then stamped the red approved stamp on the N-400. She told it was too late for the oath and I will receive my oath letter within 2 weeks.

Its been three weeks now, I still have not received my oath letter. What should I do? Should I schedule a Infopass or call the hotline? Will any of this upset USCIS about my impatience?

You can either do an Infopass or call an IO with no. Don't worry, they won't be upset at you for asking since the IO had previously told you it would take 2 weeks. Just keep in mind that USCIS has up to 120 days to adjudicate your case after interview so it can take longer than the 2 weeks IO promised you.

I had my interview on 4/03/08 at the Atlanta DO, and saw the "approved" stamp placed on my application. However, instead of being sworn in as many, I mean MANY people that day, I was given an N-652 because I requested a name change (adding a middle name) on my N-400. At the time, I was told by the IO that the my oath would take place somewhere around 5/09/08, at the Federal Building downtown (in front of an immigration judge, for the name change). I have yet to receive my Oath appointment as of today.

A few weeks ago, I called customer service and the lady on the phone told me that it may take up to 90 days for them to schedule the oath ceremony. From the posting here, I see up to 120 days.

Since I requested a name change, and am still within the 90 (120) day period, is there anything I should be worried about?

By law it's up to 120 days. Just keep contacting IO via Infopass or phone to get periodic updates. Your DO most likely has a backlog of cases waiting for oath to be scheduled so there's nothing to worry about.

actually, the oath schedule is in DOs hands. if i were you, i'd make an infopass, hope to get an understanding person at the counter and beg your way for an oath date. if not, it's all in the paperwork, and most of the time they're not fast and consistent about scheduling people, but if you appear there and plead your case you might get someone who will punch in a few words in their computer and get you an oath date. good luck

I know of the "InfoPass", but am unsure how it actually works. Is it just basically to process to make an appointment to see an IO?

Thanks for the quick replies Bobsmyth, you are really resourceful with your replies.

Thanks vlorak. Have you gotten your passport yet?

I was interviewed at the Baltimore DO, from what I see from the Baltimore thread is that people get same day oaths if they are in time for the oaths offered that day. That tells me that they are not really overbooked for their oaths. My interview was just over at about 3.00pm, thats why I think I couldnt get it the same day. And I was hoping that they would just process a date and send the information over to me.

So what I am going to do is exactly that, call the hotline and see if there has been any updates in the system. If I dont get any updated information I will schedule Infopass. I just hope that I dont upset them.

Bbsandrew, you are right, infopass is an appointment to speak to the IO at your local DO. http://infopass.uscis.gov/

I just dialed 800 number and selected 1-2-6, the representative answered the phone, she wouldnt transfer me to an IO unless she wasnt able to help me. I was told that I need to wait at least 90 days for them to even look into the case why my oath letter is still pending.

Looks like I might have to just schedule an Infopass, what do you think Bobsmyth?

Try this..call back, choose 1-2-6, tell rep you never received receipt notice or number and it's been more than 30 days since you applied. The rep will transfer you right away to IO. Don't worry, you won't get in trouble for trying this as no info of yours is recorded during the transfer to IO. Ask the IO if he can see if oath letter was sent out yet.

I am scared to pull that off, my attitude is to be safe than sorry. Yet again, thanks so much for the reply.

I scheduled an Infopass next week for Jun 26th at 10.50am. I am hoping that going in early might increase my chances to get the same day interview. I know from people on the forum that they do conduct Thursday oaths.

I've done it many times and even received confirmation of my IL that way with no consequences..but I understand if you're comfortable with that. Good luck with Infopass.

My husband's interview was May 20th in San Francisco. No oath letter yet.

I was told by USCIS that until 90 days have passed, you just have to sit and wait. After 90 days, then go for the infopass appointment. If you go for the infopass prior to 90 days having expired, they may just tell you to reschedule one after that time has passed.

Bobsmyth, I just got off the phone with the Cust Service. The person went through what sounded like a list of yes/no questions, and basically told me there's nothing he can do without a receipt notice number. He and I went around and around and I finally gave up. The phone call was a bit frustrating... The rep sounded like he was reading a script during most of the call.....

Have they gotten smarter about people finding ways to go straight to an IO?

Call them again and tell the rep that you applied 2 months ago and still haven't gotten a receipt. If they ask you whether or not your check was cashed, tell them it was. You should then be transferred to an IO.

I just returned from the Infopass appointment. I asked about the oath letter and when that would be sent to me.

The officer said that my application is being reviewed by a supervisor, once that is approved then I will receive the oath letter.
There was a document that they needed from the Vermont Service Center and that was not received by the Baltimore office. They didnt receive it from Vermont, so they closed the case for the need of the document.

Now once the supervisor approves my application I will be notified. She said that if I dont receive the oath letter within 30 days that I could go back and see them.
