My interview for citizenship was successful (summary to follow soon). I am scheduled for oath on 9/16. IO mentioned that I could apply for US PP and can get it in 1 day right after oath ceremony. I wonder if anyone knows its possible to get this fast? what do I need to take to apply after/at oath ceremony location?

Also, if I need to cancel Indian passport, get renounciation certificate and PIO. how long it would take?

Thanks.

You have to go in person to an actual Passport Office (not a post office) to get expedited same day or next day service and you usually have to make an appointment and you have to justify it (emergency travel with tickets in hand, mother on deathbed or job on the line). So, it depends on where you are and what your emergency is.

Ordinary service is pretty fast and there is standard expedited service already available.

I wasn't aware that one needed to have an "emergency" to be able to apply in person at the passport office. I thought having a documented ticket within 2 weeks was sufficient. Can you point to a link which shows the requirement to have an actual "emergency"?

CalGC, you are right ... tickets in hand within next 2 weeks is technically an emergency which allows you to get the same day passport. It is unusual for me to pick on Joe's comments as he is usually absolutely right ... here's another one ... you need to go to 'passport agency' not 'office' ... you will get much better search results with the use of word agency.

However, I am not sure whether you can do renunciation + PIO in 2 weeks. Check the OCI threads.

This one is not an official agency, but a private company. Going personally to a passport agency works as well, or better since you are not handing over your documents to a non-government person.
