hi everyone

My sister got a letter about her aging out from my mother's asylum status. They said she needs to be file out a Form- I-589 and i have checked the threads on this topic and one thing is not clear. How does she go ABOUT filling out the form.. What info does she put in the form--the same thing as my mother?? any help or assistance will be greatly appreciated..

wow, the cis is really on the roll with these requests lately!!!!!!!!!!

your sister should only fill out the biographical information on the I-589; remember, she is only a derivative and does not need to justify her status per se! Not to mention the fact that her case will be reviewed based on your mom's application and whatever the political circumstances were at the time. I have however included a letter in my application, explaining my situation and the political developments of my COP, just in case.

the filled out I-589 should be sent to the office which requested her RFE, i am assuming a service center; which will then transfer her case to the asylum office at your location, which will in turn call her for the nunc pro tunc interview. at the interview, they should not go into detail about the asylum application with her. it should only take a few minutes. it is just an informal meeting where she will fill out a sheet of paper under oath, primarily dealing with her criminal background, or the lack of it!!!

OK but

Thanks but INS should have a "nunc pro tunc form other than the I-589 Form though because the form is just like doing the process from the start..

I was going through this just a couple of months ago and was as confused. I hope you have a copy of the original I-589, filed by your mother. Fill out new I-589 as completely as you can. For persecustion issues simply make a note "Refer to the appropiate section of the original I-589, filed in 19**" I also enclosed a full copy of my original asylum application with all additional material and copies of all documents.
That's what I did and my documents were accepted. I agree that that the INS makes it way too difficult for us. Do not call 1-800-no-help line. I tried to call them and spoke with 3 people, including information officer - none of them had a slightest idea what I was talking about even after I spelled it. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about this issue. :)

Form I-589 Question

I got a question in the form i-589 on the very first page question #18, #19, #20 & # 21

In question 18 b-it says current i-94 should my sister use the # when she arrived US or use the # that she was given in 1999 when her asylum was granted??

In question #19, #20 & # 21--it says what country issued your last passport or travel document and passport # and expiration date.---Now my sister doesnt have a RTD but she renewed her NP back in aug 2002, the question should she put the NP information in those questions or leave it blank since her asylum was granted back in 1999.
