Not yet approved coz it is not 5 years yet

Hi folks,

I just had my interview and the AO was satisfied with everything but she said that I am still one week away from my 5 yrs in USA, so she cannot approve it before next week. Is this a normal case or just another way to say "rejected"? I am kind of confused. Lets hear if some of you have heard anything like this.

This is normal and not a rejection. You need 5 years of permanent residency in order to be approved, so your case can't be adjudicated until you reach 5 year mark.

The OP's case was too early to adjudicate. It doesn't say anything as to whether it should be recommended for approval, so any request for an early oath is premature.
 
Congrats. Your case must be an eye opener to many who want to hurry their process by early FP and applying exact 90 days in advance etc. In the end it does not pay. In case of ching_chang_man, he had interview one week shy of 5 years. Result he has to wait 2 months for approval. Now a days USCIS is fairly fast and no need to jump their processes.

Since USCIS allows people to apply before 90 days of becoming 5 years I do not think my 2 month delay should make other folks not applying before 90 days. May be my case went for extra checks which someone else's case may not require.

But you might have received a "recommended for approval" at the end of the interview, if you had already crossed the 5 year mark before the interview. By applying so early that your interview happened before the 5 year anniversary, you forced them to suspend your case and removed the possibility for an immediate recommendation for approval.

Oath is next month.

May be you are right. But, I applied 90 days before my 5 years and within 30 days of sending my application I received my interview letter. Not sure why it was so fast. On a different thought, why USCIS will call someone for interview if he/she has not finished five years yet.
