Hello Everyone

I had interview this morning which went very smoothly.
IO told me that I passed the interview but she could not make a decision since she has not received my A-File yet.
She said there is nothing to worry and they are good at finding things these days and i will be receiving oath schedule in a month or so.

I don't quite understand how they setup the interview date without locating the file and they must have enough time to do it since I submit the N-400 form to NBC.

I am now frustrating if i would be in limbo.
I am planning to marry right after the oath but the plan becomes not imminent.

please advise.

thanks

Yes
Newark DO offers same day oath if you are granted.
But like my case, they sometimes don't have your A-file when interviewing.
Then they issue a form saying you will be notified by mail when you come back again for oath ceremony, which sucks

it has been a week now and, of course, I haven't heard anything back from USCIS about the decision.
I checked many of post here and there related to my situation but not really i could find something that makes me feel better.

anyone who has an brief idea how long USCIS would spend to locate my A-File?

I have learned that USCIS, upon receiving N-400 application, initiates automatic order for A-file from where it's known to be located. When the A-file is not available to adjudicator at the time of interview, the adjudicator may order it again.
Application was submitted more than 6 months ago and I am little frustrated because my A-file has not been located for last 6 months and it may not be located for next months and months.

I am planning to marry and this might be in limbo.

please advise if you have any experience with this type situation.

thanks a lot in advance

If 120 days passes and you have not heard anything, you should sue and have US DA office get nasty with them.
You will hear in about a day or two after that.

In my case, I got RFE after the interview for my wife's divorse decree from her first marriage, even though I am applying based on residency after winnign DV lottery. And I have what they call a Re-Interview after the initial one in two month.

If they keep requesting such nonesensical evidence, they will end up with a law suit in their lap.

thanks for your reply.
but what is US DA and how i would make them to be nasty with USCIS?

It has been a month since I had interview where I was told that it wouldn't take more than a month to get an oath letter from them.
I haven't received any response from them yet so I am now sending a letter to the officer that i had an interview with.

Do you think Infopass would be better than a letter?
Last time when I visited USCIS with Infopass appointment for asking interview letter was not very helpful at all.

Do you have any suggestion?

hey whybrick

I am going to my interview on the 21st of october in Newark, Nj and your case is kinda making me nervous. Do you remember by any chance what civics questions they asked of you?

thanks

Gee, just memorize all the questions and you will be fine. It does not matter what questions were asked to others because they may not be the same for you. As long as you know the answers to all the questions you will be fine during the test. The officers use a software that presents random questions to be asked so it is not as if they ask specific questions to people from Latin America or Asia or short people or tall people.

The civics test is not a matser piece. A good think to do is to rip the CD that you got when you did biometrics, put them (the mp3s) on your phone and play them random.

they are all well trained to be very calm and nice for you to be also comfortable to answer what you know.
i think you should not be worried about the interview.
Like Tazmania said, CD Rom that you got from biometric center is really helpful. Put it in your car and listen and answer while driving.
