Hi,

I have a 2 year PostDoc fellowship offer from a US University. I know I can get the TN visa at the border. However my Wife is a not a Canadian citizen, and needs to get her TD visa at a US embassy.

1. Do I have to enter the US and get my TN before she applies for a TD? Or can we both apply for the visas at a US embassy.

2. My wife is a Medical Doctor and wants to do her residency in the states. Will she be able to do so with a TD? will she be able to work at all with a TD? or will she be able to do a externship/subinternship/observership while studying for the USMLE.

3.Now that the TN visa is for 3 years, is there a way to get a Green Card?

If done at US consulate in Canada, you are expected to get TN beforehand, as it is so simple.

You spouse will have to get her own status to work in US.

Thanks Nelsona,

What about if we are not in Canada atm? Would I be able to get the TN with her TD at a US embassy in europe? Any ideas on Green Card?

Sometimes, the Consulate will issue both.

As to your other question, it has ALWAYS been possible to migrate from TN to GC, so why would 3-year duration matter?
