New revalidation times ( Jan 22, 2002 Onwards)

The VISA office

I think I am the only one who gets the standard answer from the VISA office lady/guy "It will take 12-15 weeks to get the VISA revalidated. We can\'t check the status of the application in the meantime you have to wait."

get stamp on 14 Feb, revd back with stamp on 19 Feb.

To Imran Aslam: Its not possible

Dear friend

I am still in the same situation, what you have faced.
But somebody told me that you can\'t show that passport
as lost because it is not. It is with Dept. of State.

Indian embassy doesn\'t give a new passport in such situation
and police won\'t entertain such complaint.

At the most one can withdraw the passport and wait.

Please don\'t take my reaction otherwise.
I just called Dept. of State at 202-663-1225.
Their recording says that they are worling on
cases received before 01/04/2002. So I was
wondering, you must be very lucky to receive
it because you sent it on 01/18/2002. If you
had used Fed-Ex, DOS must have received it by
01/18/2002.

I think everybody\'s luck should be like you.

To Sanjay: That was my concern!!

I also had this concern that police won\'t file a report if my passport is with the state department. I also made couple of withdrawl requests through fax to state department. Infact I also asked the visa officer to withdraw my passport, but she told me that I can\'t withdraw it because the case has already been approved. Sanjay, I don\'t blame you for not being worried about your passport as I have been through it. Anyways, there is just a little tip for you and that is, a week before I got my visa stamp printed, State was printing the visa stamps for Jan 23rd approved cases. My visa was approved on Jan 24th and my stamp was printed on Feb 22nd. May be this will help you to guess a time frame for your visa stamp. Goodluck to you Sanjay! PS: As per my experiene with DOS people,
    I want to suggest -
#1 If there is an emergency, always withdraw
   the passport 15 days back. Send fax multiple
   times or at least confirm with DOS person that
   they have received your fax.
#2 Those who didn\'t withdraw and took chance or got
   late in deciding on time, Call DOS multiple times.
   It is not impossible to get a helpful DOS person
   who understands your problem. But even if somebody
   takes personal interest in your case out of sympathy,
   that DOS person still might need 2-3 days to trace out
   your passport. So even if you get such a person at 11th
   hour, chances of happy ending to your story will be very
   bleak.
   Atleast, one should start sending fax to prove his urgency
   10 days before. Thats what we saw in a case where request
   was made on 02/14/2002 and he got his passport on 02/23/2002
   and able to go to international conference.
   SO THOSE WHO TAKE CHANCES REPEATEDLY AND BELIEVE IN TRYING
   THEIR LUCK HAVE BETTER CHANCES TO GET THEIR CASE HEARD BY DOS.

Dear Imran

My stand remains same. Police won\'t file a case
of lost passport because its not missing, its with
DOS. One can withdraw or wait for visa revalidation.
Either way its not lost.

ANYBODY WHO FILED A LOST PASSPORT CASE WITH POLICE IN
CASE OF DELAY AT DOS.

Its not that I was worried about my passport.
Infact, I belong to the category of people who
suffered most because of delay in Visa revalidation.

My wife\'s only sister\'s marriage was on 02/25/2002.
To keep the hope alive, I even booked a flight for
02/23/2002 but couldn\'t get the passpor on time even
after the best efforts of DOS people. They couldn\'t
trace my passport and I had to cancel the ticket.

Any way the gooD and bad ending of the whole ordeal
is that -
* We couldn\'t attend the marriage
* Austrian Airlines is going to deduct $825 for cancellation.
* I got my stamped passport on 02/26/2002. So it was a close
  finish and now I am not that much excited after getting it.

Dear Sanjay,
Congratulations that you got your passport back. I am sorry that you couldn\'t get your passport in time to attend the wedding of your sister in law, but good thing is your long wait has been ended which was also painful. Because of this terrorist attack on Sep 11, I guess most of us suffered either directly or indirectly. Anyways, goodluck to you in future!!

Rose42: Can you tell me how long your H1 visa will be valid?

I was confused with the validity of the H1 visa. Say, if your visa was stamped on 1/16, and it will expire on 4/16 (valid for 3 months), do you have to come back to the US by 4/16? Why I concern about this is because I am planning to go to my home country this summer and if I receive a visa which is only valid for 3 months, it may expire before I use it. However, I do not apply for the revalidation now, I may not be able to get it before the start of summer then I go not make my travel. Can you kindly give me some information? I have posted my question in a separate session but no one was interested in this issue. Thank you in advance!!!

Do you know how many visas are stamping per day?
Weekly how many PP were delivered to DOS for revalidation?
