New requirement for travel outside US

Hi,
This is something new, which I heard yesterday. If any one husband or wife traveling with a kid then husband/wife needs to show a notorized letter before boarding the plane that they are married & other person who is not traveling doesn't have any objection on kid going out of US.

My wife's friend called us yesterday from CA & she told us about this. Her relative was asked for this on SFO airport before boarding the plane to india. They also have notary at the airport so that husband/wife can get a letter notorized at that point if they don't have it ready. :confused: :confused:

Does anybody have any more information.

This doesn't surprise me. My wife many years ago worked in a courthouse that handled divorces and there's an international convention regarding taking children outside of the country against parents' wishes. There are far too many cases of one spouse taking children to foreign (usually Middle Eastern or South Asian) countries where it is pretty much impossible to get a US custody order enforced.

We're never asked about it when my wife takes my daughter to Canada when leaving (mostly because we arrive/leave via a domestic terminal in the US) but Canadian Customs asks about it when they get there. It's never been notarized, and I've always been curious as to what they'd do if she didn't have it (it's not like they could deny either of them entry.)
 
Absolutely Rubbish.

We (me my wife and my 3 yr old daughter) flew to sydney from SFO on 7th Aug and came back on 16th Aug just 2 days ago. Never heard of what you are saying.

We both even got our h1b stamped at Sydney consulate.

You misunderstood what he said. He is saying if only 'ONE' parent goes with a child, the other parent who is not going has to give the affidavit. Since you both went the question did not arise.

But, this is an interesting development, just to add one more to the liong list of documents we must take with us before we depart US.

Thanks for the info Samy70. Again, this may or may not be asked in all cases, but would be good to have in hand just in case.

I traveled last year from Philadelphia to New Delhi by BA with my son ( 5 years old) while my wife was here ...no problem at all..
