Hi,

I am currently staying in US . My current visa status is H-4 as my husband is in H-1B sattus. I want to pursue my higher stuidies in US. Can I change my visa status from H-4 to F-1 without going back to India? How long it will take to change my status ( if possible)?

If I go back to India in the mid way of my studies what wil happen??

H4 to F1

You can change your status from H4 to F1 with out going out of US.
It will take 180+ days in CSC. You cam continue to stay for ever kepping your staus in F1/OPT/ then H1 or H4.

If you go to home country with F1 approval notice, you have to face the same interview as any other I 20 student face with US Embassy to stamp visa in the passport.

Since you have already exposed yourself as H4 (immigrant indent) the F1 has non immigrant intend. It is very difficut to convince the counselor to get F1 stamped in your passport. If you are un lucky, you can not re-enter US at all.

Thanx for reply...

Here I have one more question...
I am really confused ...Is H4 is for immigrant intend??I knew that it is a type of non-immigrant visa...

I have also one more question....
Can I get scholarship in H4 visa status as any intermational student gets in F1 visa from universities??

Or they donot give scholarships to the student in H-4 visa..

Plzzzz reply..

You can get scholarsips from basically every school or organization which gives grants to international students or any other types of groups who are not from the U.S. But you can not apply for financial aid because it is from the government for citizens and alians. www.fastweb.com is a free website full of with millions of dollars for all kinds of students. I also suggest that call up your country's embassy and see what they can advise you in that matter.

If you want to go from H4 to F1, you need to issue a completely new visa with a completaly new status. I heard if you change status you need to live the country. Probaboly you know what school you will attend why don't you give a call to your international advisor or the U.S. Immigration who know exactely what are the correct and lawful arrangements?
