I need some advice.

I was in United states between 1975 to 1980 stayed for five full years as legally required, now again I am legal immigrant in USA from August 2006 in the US for the last two years.

I need help, to know:-Can I apply for citizenship from my previous stay with my present status ? If yes how.. I would really appreciate any help ...

Need case details did you stay in US 1975 to 1980 on Green Card?
when did you left US
in August 2006 do you came with same Green Card?
Post your details

No you can't. It's not just a matter of having 5 years of residence, the requirement is to have 5 years of continuous residence leading up to the time you apply for citizenship and also the time you get interviewed, and those 5 years must be as a green card holder (or 3 years if married to a US citizen during those 3 years). Once you break that continuity, you have to start over.

Its actually 2.5 yrs of cumulative stay in the 5 yrs preceding to your applying for citizenship where none of your stays outside the US have been more than 6 consecutive months. (This is for Employment Based )

The requirement is 2.5 years of physical presence, with 5 years of continuous residence. Two different concepts, although they are somewhat related.
