Need advice

I have a family memeber in a situation. He has been dating this girl for 2 years and this august he decide to marry her. She came over from brazil and right after the wedding her whole deminer changed. He recently told her that it was not working that he wanted a divorce. She told him that he owed her a green card. He told her he could not stay with her just so she could get her green card. A couple days later she filed a restraining order say he abused her. I honestly believe she is saying this she can stay in the states. I have been try to read up about this and it say that the spouse is not even notified when they make such an accusation. My question is what sort of proof do you have to have to make such a claim and be granted a visa? Also how does my family member go about canceling his sponsership for her? He does not want to be legally responsible for her if she gets in trouble!
