Hi all

My interview date was postponed so i am scheduled for tomorrow.
A few days ago I dicsovered that I had a parking ticket from 4 years ago that I didnt even know while looking through old records.
My DMV records showed clean when I got the official report for my driving records.
Now my questions is how should I handle this when iIgo to the interview should I let the IO know immeditely or wait for IO to ask.
I am very concerned cause I was supposed to note it in the N400 app but I honestly had no idea.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for all your help and support.

Not sure if parking tickets needs to be reported. Parking tickets are issued for the vehicle without knowing who parked it. As a owner, you might have paid for it but it doesn't mean you were driving it at that time and you were cited.

Don't sweat it - it's not a real "traffic violation" anyway.
if you have doc's that show you have paid it, take 'em with you; otherwise, I wouldn't mention it, unless IO asks.
Even "real" traffic violations with fines under $500 needn't be mentioned, so I highly doubt he will bother you about a parking ticket.

if he asks "any traffic tickets?", just say "yes, only a parking ticket, it was paid, and here's my DMV record", and show the DMV record that you have.

and like i said, if you have doc's that show you have paid it, take 'em with you, but i really doubt they'll ask for it.

Don't worry about it. It is not required to be mentioned on N400 since it is not moving traffic violation. Traffic cam ticket or parking ticket -- they should not be mentioned on N-400 because they capture only tag numbers, not drivers. Anyone could drive or park the vehicle. but make sure that it is already paid. Otherwise, your vehicle registration could be suspended. It won't affect your citizenship application anywhere because fine is less than $500 as guidelines said.

If IO asks you about traffic ticket (opposed to moving traffic ticket), say yes and show your records to them like washburn said.

Parking tickets don't need to be mentioned, even if the IO specifically asks if you've had any traffic tickets - they are not TRAFFIC tickets. Parking tickets are not issued to the driver, so don't worry about it. The correct answer is "NO".

Parking tickets are not important and do nolt need to be mentioned but if you
get a parking ticket but do not pay it, an arrest warrant may be issued for you. You have to make sure that has not occurred

Do they actually do this? I'm not familiar with every municipality, but I've never actually heard of an arrest warrant being issued for a non-payment of a parking ticket. I know that in New York and Philadelphia, the worst that can happen is having your car towed.

Vehicle registration would be suspended for non payment of a parking ticket. Unless the parking ticket requires you to go court, I doubt an arrest warrant can be imposed.

What if someone is on verge of selling that car anyway? He can think since
he won't drive that car any longer so there is no risk if he does not pay
the fine.

for people like that, they put a hold on your name at DMV to not be able to register any new vehicles until all fines are paid.

Selling a car soon after receiving a parking ticket doesn't make the ticket go away as it's already on record according to your name and address.

Bobsmyth and wantmygcnow are correct. Again, the exact regulations probably vary state by state. In New York City, for example, the Department of Finance can have the DMV block a registration renewal/new vehicle registration if the owner has more than $250 in unpaid parking tickets.

Our system at work does this everyday for toll violators & red light camera violators. it goes on their DMV license and they can't register anything/even renew their license unless all tolls+fines are paid.

For people with temporary tags, its more work but 9/10 times, they dont go after the dealers to find out the info about the driver.

The bottomline is: we all agree we do not need to disclose a parking ticket we paid in timely mannaer but should a person disclose a unpaid OVERDUE parking ticket or not.

If it is to be disclosed, under which question. Maybe that "Have you commited a crime or offense for which you were not arrested" question.

If you do not pay a parking ticket, you commit an offense. Since no police
has bother you yet, then you are not arrested.

Using that logic, one should disclose unpaid library fines as well.

Using common sense, a parking ticket (whether it has been paid or not) does not need to be disclosed on application.

Maybe oen should if teh library notify the police

I agree. But I also want to say that if you really tell the IO that you
got parking ticket and did not pay them, there is a great chance
that the IO will put your case on hold until you to pay the ticket.
That actually make this fact a material fact

lakshmi_H - speak up - did you get an answer to your question. Do not bother to mention it in the interview, pay it off as soon as possible and share your interview experience here.
