hey
How re u all
thx a lot about your forum and its great advantages

I am syrian , born and raised in Kuwait
this year , before 1 month, I graduated from high school

I will enter a medical school
but I would like to take the green card in order to facilitate the residency procedures when I finish the college
I mean after 7 years

so << I heard that If I took the green card, I shouldn't travel more than 6 months outside the US
So << as I am studying I can do this
but how long the period that I should stay in the US every 6 months ?

Also < I heard that after 5 years I can get the US citizenship , but after 5 years of taking the green card
or after 5 years of being inside the US

So , do you advise me to apply for the green card in this year as I am in the first year of medical school
or I should wait till the second or the third year

thanks a lot in advance

Patience, my friend!

Omgggg!!!!!

by the way I am talking about the diversity visa

I think first of all you should be concerned about applying for the lottery in the first place. Once you win the lottery, then you should think about all the other secondary things.
Anyways, a green card holder, according to my knowledge, can spend upto 364 days outside US. If he stays more than that, his green card will become null and void. To remedy this, he can apply for a re-entry permit, which would allow him to spend more than a year outside US, upto two years I guess.
And as far as US citizenship is concerned, one has to spend five years inside US. Holding a green card for 5 years is not sufficient, living in US is the criteria for acquiring the US citizenship. I told you all that I knew, I could be wrong. You should wait for further replies in this thread.
And get your photographs and data ready, you have less than two months for DV-2014, which will start in october.

Good luck!

I'm afraid you'll need to make your postings a lot more clearer than the previous one is, if you expect people to respond and provide useful information. I never bothered to reply initially because I couldn't quite understand what you were asking about.

Are you currently schooling in the US? Are you are current DV Visa Lottery winner? What is your current status? So many ambiguities in your post.

thx a lot for your reply < I am really appreciate it
you re right about this principle
So , depending on what u said , I can just get into the US every 6 months for 1 week to solve the problem of being into the US all the year>
Also , thx about the information about the citizenship
but can I get outside the US each year for 1 month ,,
or I should be the whole 5 years ??

thx again

I am ready for any explanation and you re welcomed to bother me at any time hehehe

I am asking about 3 things :
1-If I won the green card , how long should I stay into the US yearly
( I heard that I should travel for 6 months , I am talking as a holder of the green card, to the US to save my green card::: If this was true < how long this period every 6 months will be 1 week for example or more ? because u know I am a medical student in Kuwait )

2- IF I won the green card , I have the right to apply for taking the US citizenship after 5 years ,

those 5 years << are they after just taking the green card ??
Or < are they after residing inside the US?

3- depending to those answers, do u advise me to apply for the green card this year ? or it's very early and I should wait for some years

If u have more advice I will be grateful

Answers for your question :
I am not schooling now in the US but I am intending to take the residency in it
I am schooling in Kuwait
I didn't win the DV visa lottery till the moment , but I will apply for it after 2 months
I am single
and I am sorry about the ambiguities

best regards

My dear friend,
You are putting too much pressure on your brain, my dear brother! All you need to do at the moment is to prepare your photographs and data, and apply for DV-2014. You have the high school education, which is the requirement for the lottery. There is no guarantee that you will win the lottery in first attempt. I won the lottery in my third attempt, and that is because I consider myself extremely lucky, and God has been kind to me. That doesn't mean you should lose hope. Inshallah, it is possible that you win it in your first attempt, by the grace of the Almighty.
Once you win the lottery(and the green card after that), then you should be thinking about all this, you are thinking too far right now. Focus on your studies, and DV-2014 for the moment. And regarding the answers to your questions, my friend, once you get the green card inshallah, you will find the answers yourself, trust me!

I hope I haven't said anything wrong, please pardon me if I did say something inapprpriate!

Best wishes!

You should win first the lottery instead of saying : if if if.

Winning is not obvious, all what are you saying is irrelevant now, false problems, win first then come.

Apply And Win The DV Visa Lottery First!

All the questions you're asking at the moment are immaterial. You need to apply for and win the visa lottery first, if that is the route you want to explore for getting into the US. There's no guarantee that one automatically gets selected or 'gets a green card' like your postings sounded. And not all of those who initially get selected end up getting a green card at the end of the process either.

Hello Abdullah,

I will answer your questions in detail:

Q) 1-If I won the green card , how long should I stay into the US yearly
( I heard that I should travel for 6 months , I am talking as a holder of the green card, to the US to save my green card::: If this was true < how long this period every 6 months will be 1 week for example or more ? because u know I am a medical student in Kuwait )

A) Any Green card holder can spend outside USA periods upto 6 months and come back into USA and be admitted without any extra documents.

Now there is a document that you have to apply for it if you need to stay outseid USA for longer than a year. This document (called Re-entry permit) will allow you to enter USA after being away for a year.

But keep in mind that if you study in Kuwait then you will be in Kuwait for long periods and be in USA for short periods. This will create a problem because your actual residency is in Kuwait NOT USA and therefore you might get your GC void when you try to enter USA because the immigration officer will ask you what you were doing in Kuwait and he will notice that you only spend a couple of months in USA while you in reality is residing in Kuwait and that fact itself nullifies your GC status.

To have a GC and be in good status you will have to live in USA, work, study, have a residence and an address and also file for taxes every year.

Q) 2- IF I won the green card , I have the right to apply for taking the US citizenship after 5 years , those 5 years << are they after just taking the green card ??
Or < are they after residing inside the US?

There are many conditions that needs to be met before being eligible for citizenship. The most important conditions are:

A) have your GC for more than 5 years
b) Residing for at least 2.5 years of those 5 years inside USA
C) having proof that you are living in USA such as work, study, tax documents and so on
D) also remmeber you will have to register with selective service in USA becaus eyou are a male between 18 -26 of age. Its like a militray service that you must register for as a green card holder

Q) 3- depending to those answers, do u advise me to apply for the green card this year ? or it's very early and I should wait for some years

A) You have to decided if you really want to move to USA because if you do apply and win then you will have to move to USA. If you do win and take an immigrant visa then you will have to move to USA in six months (the validity of the visa) otherwise you will lose your GC status to being with.

Also remember that Medical college is not the same in USA. Even if you are a doctor in your home country, you could have to be tested and acquire more certifications and studies to have your medical degree validated and good to practice medicine in USA.
