Name in Passport and Citizenship Certificate???

Talking about long names, here's a true story: a friend of mine named Paliniappachchan had called the DMV regarding something. The conversation went something along these lines:

DMV: Can you please spell your name for me?
Friend: It is Paliniappachchan. P as in Pineapple, A as in apple, L as in Larry, I as in India, N as in Nancy, I as in India, A as in Apple, P as in Pineapple, P as in Pineapple, A as in Apple....
DMV:...cutting him off in frustration...: Sir, can you just tell me how many apples and how many pineapples?

This has to be the funniest thread on this forum!

Dont worry. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet :D

Thanks Prithis. I am not worrying. This is my take, a name is a name, if anyone is not able to pronounce or unable to read that is not my problem. May sound as rude but thats the fact.

If somebody is in control of something you want ... a job, license, bank loan, etc., and they have trouble spelling or pronouncing your name, their problem becomes your problem. May sound rude but that's the fact.

If they are that incompetent then I don't use them!!!!

My wife and I applied passport at local post office on May 30th and I received my passport on June 15th. I applied under regular processing.

Received a call from United States Department of State yesterday night around 8 PM. My wife didn't pick it up. When I returned home I called back that number and it said the number is not in service. Within a minute received call from the same number. The person on the line informed me that he needs to speak to my wife. He mentioned that there is a problem on the name, they don't have enough space to put my wife's name on the passport. We filled the form online and it allowed us to enter the name. The limit is 29 characters but my wife's first name is 30 characters (4 words) and last name is 12 characters. We used only first 2 words (12 characters) as first name and one middle initial in the drivers license and he wanted our permission to use the same way in the passport also. I thought it is pretty good service.

Does any one have any opinion about having different names in passport and N400 certificate? I am going to leave the certificate at home and carry the passport & card for all travel and identification purpose. Does it create any issues?

Humble request: Please don't ask questions like why the name is so long and why didn't you change it during the oath.
It will be fine, but make sure that when booking air tickets the name on the booking matches that on the passport and driving license exactly. The DHS is taking over from the airlines in verifying passenger identify and this is one of their new guidelines.
