I just called VSC and they said that my file went to the Name Check department in March.

March was when my PD became current. So it seems to be that files whose PD is current have moved into a separate department. Not sure what they do in there...but I was told there was a lag of 60 days (VSC was about 60 days behind).

Is this where the name check(s) received were updated ? anyone know what this whole process is?

Which number did you call and how did you get this information. My date is current from March 1st . PD Aug 2000. EB3. Dont knwo what is happening?

Tip from various forums

to call VSC

Press 1 (for english),
press 2 (for existing case),
press 6 (for case statues etc),
then press 1( for knowing your receipt no.),
enter the receipt # to get the automated response saying blah blah blah and also at the end saying this is the most upto date information on your case and our customer the same info national customer service agents have (i totally agree with this).
Then choose to continue to the next step "press 3" . choose 3
Listen to the options-
Option 4 "if you feel if you submitted together and one of the applications is left out and not processed (don't remmember the exact message text ..but something about companion case"
 
Thanks. Whenever I call them they say we dont have more information and we will send a referral. How do you manage to get these details.
 
I just called VSc and they are saying that they are waiting for security check results. Would it help if we approach congressman. Anybody who went through this before, please post some information
 
I got the same reply as well when I called VSC few weeks ago. My PD is sep 1999(eb 3, IND).
When I called them, a very nice officer told me that the name check was initiated on FEB 1 06, that was the day when my application became current. I have been waiting very anxiously since then, hoping to get an LUD but nothing seems to be happening . Its been almost 3 months !

Supply_demand can we talk ?, your case is very similar to mine.
 
In mycase they said the name check was initiated in Feb 2 nd 2005 and haven't heard anything from the external agency.

Usually namecheck results come back in 72 hours. I dont know why so many of us are stuck in NameCheck. Would it be possible that people who applied for 485 during a particular timeperiod have their name check Pending.

Name check is generally initiated within 4 weeks from the time 485 is submitted. I applied for mine in Dec 2004 and Namecehck was initiated feb 2 nd 2005. If it did not happen for this long, I am doubtful it will ever happen in near future. I am sick of this whole process anyway. It sucks. big time
 
I think the name check process depends on your length of stay in this country too. Lesser is the best, few files to check. I have been in this country for last 5-6 yrs, my name check is still pending, I am sure that I have not broken any laws. My wife is here only for few years and her name check got cleared within 7-8 months. Also since I am a derivative applicant on my wifes case it may also be questionable to some body. Anyways I have been keeping this GC dream since 2002 and god knows when it is going to be a reality.
 
Last week I got a response from the FBI via the local congresswoman. The congresswoman's staff was reasonably responsive and completed the whole process quite quickly. So as I expected the response from FBI was "it's still pending" and rest of the standard official text can be summarized as "we will take as long as it takes, we can not estimate when, so sit tight and wait!".

But one thing this query did was reveal when the name check was initiated. It was initiated very quickly after my I-485 was filed. My lawyers filed I-485 on Jan. 23, 2004 and the name check request was received by FBI on Feb. 2, 2004.

FBI FAQs regarding namecheck and other discussions and documents regarding the FBI namecheck seem to refer to max. time for name check (including those names that produce a hit in their system and require further manual analysis) as 6 months. Obviously that is an old news (must be true in 2002/2003 may be), since many here complain of years of pending name checks.

My wife also has same last name as mine, her name check immidiately cleared (Found thru VSC Rep).

It looks like it is not thru the no of hits, how long you have been in this contry.

My case is eb-2, 485 RD 07/2004 and NC was initiated 07/2004 according to FOIP.

My wife's NC was cleared in 7 months and mine is still pending. She came to the States the same time as I came.

According to local congressman's office, the gender, age, nationality, profession, degree, everything else play an role in the time length NC takes.
 
Visa Hold to - Name Check Pending?

Did the VSC rep tell anyone that their case was on "Visa Hold" and when the priority date became current, the status changed to sceurity checks pending?

I had called the VSC and asked for the status of my case and they said my case was on visa hold that means security checks are complete. I wonder if visa hold really means security checks complete. :confused:

Am I eligible to call USCIS to know about I-485 name check or the status?

I was told something similar when I called a few days back. My PD became current on March 1. On the phone, the lady just said your application has moved from the "Visa hold" area to the "security check" area. She would not provide details of when name check was initiated etc. Just said that once the security check is complete, the file will go to an adjudicator. My last LUD was in Sept 2005 (FP results received).

I suspected that because I see so many users on this forum with PD current and still do not have approvals because of namecheck. I tried contacting congressman (CT) but their office refused to help. I am going to try contacting the Senator's office. I do not have any idea on the status of my namecheck. I hope the senator's office will atleast give me an insight on this.
