Name change...

On the naturalization form, I have specified that I would like the spelling of my legal name to change. This was back in January '08. When I have (recently) received a notice with an invitation to the naturalization interview (which is in the middle of January '09), I have decided that the spelling that I specified is not what I want, so, in other words, I would like the "name change request" to be corrected to something else. What's the best route to take at this point? Thanks.

Don't worry, you'll have a chance to inform the immigration officer at interview of your desire to change the spelling.

is it better to file for name change during citizenship or does it make process slower and longer?

There are other avenues to change your legal name, but you will incur additional costs. During the naturalization process, you will not be incuring additional costs as they will be covered by the N-400 application fee.

If you change your name before, they will do a name check on both the old name and new name. Given that name check is the #1 reason for extended delays, maybe you don't want to do something that would increase the risk of getting stuck in name check.
