Hi All :

I had my Interview and IO asked if I need for Name Change. I said "NO".

I have passed the Interview and got the OATH letter, the OATH is scheduled at the Court.

Now I'm thinking to change my name.... (just add a new middle name)

Is it possible to change the name on the OATH day since it's
in the court ?

Have anyone gone through the similar situations ....please share your experiences or advises.....

thanks for your help.

No, it is not possible.

When you change name as a part of the naturalization process, certain paperwork related to the name change has to be prepared in advance, before the oath.
Plus in such cases the naturalization certificate is issued in the new name.

hmmmm...that's interesting. I would like to know answer too.

why don't you take the oath, then change your name as a separate process instead of jeopardizing your citizenship process?

only difference is that your naturalization certificate will be in old name.

Congrats RAM9999. Nice to hear your 2 months wait is coming to an end. I think name change now may involve name check by FBI of the new name. That may delay your OC. You could check with your IO with an INFOPASS.

I was told by Bobsmyth that FBI doesn't do a name check on the new name which is part of citizenship process. But if you do a name change outside of citizenship process, then the FBI does a name check on new name.

That is correct, if the name change is done before completing naturalization.

any help would be appreciated ASAP..... thanks to All.

Like I said in my previous post, the answer to your question is "No".
It is not possible to have a name change as a part of the oath ceremony if you did not request a name change during the interview.
There is absolutely no way around it.

I second what baikal3 posted. If an applicant requests a name change as part of naturalization, the USCIS has to prepare name change certificates, which are given to the applicant to sign at the interview. The certificates are then forwarded to the court conducting the oath, where they are processed in advance of the oath ceremony. The applicant's naturalization certificate, which will contain the new name, is also prepared in advance of the oath (as are all naturalization certificates, regardless of whether or not a name change is requested). There is absolutely no way around it - a name change cannot be requested and performed on the oath day.
