Hi Folks,

I got naturalized this week. I am filling form N600 and need your help/advice regarding question 8 of Part 4. My son was born in India in 99 and I came to US in 2001. What all dates to I need to fill in for this? All the dates I travelled to US/India.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Question 8, part 4 of the N-600 asks about adoption. If you are asking about Q 10, that is asking for travel of the N-600 claimant (your son) and he was not born before 1952.

What are you really asking about? Spell it out becauase you don't give good directions on what question you are asking about.

Thanks for your replay.

Sorry for not posting more details.

I was asking for Section 8, Part 4 on Page 4 of the application. It is asking for

Dates of Residence or Physical Presence in Unites States.

Provide the dates your US Citizen father was resided/ physically present in Unites States.

As far as I understand, you do not need to answer that question at all and should leave it blank. Q8 in part 4 of N-600 is meant for applicants who obtained citizenship AT BIRTH, while being born abroad to a U.S. citizen father. In such cases the amount of time the father was physically present in the U.S. prior to the child's birth is relevant to the applicant's eligibility for citizenship.

In your case your son is not claiming citizenship at birth but rather derived citizenship after your naturalization, under the Child Citizenship Act. If you read Q8 more carefully, you will see a subheading there, in italics, that reads:
"Complete this ONLY if you are an applicant claiming U.S. citizenship at time of birth abroad".
This obviously does not apply to your son, so you should leave Q8 blank.
