Hello All,
I am ready to file N400. I got a Reckless driving ticket in 2000(in VA). Went to court Pleaded guilty, PAID $600.00 fine. License suspended for 90 days then Judge approved restricted license(home - work). How bad is this for Citizenship process? What documentation should I provide? Along with N400 OR at the time of Interview? How should I present my application.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

its been over 5 years..It might and it might not. Very IO dependent. Wishing you all the best though!

It is very easy to get a reckless driving in VA. I suspect there is great chance your IO one got one too there

Fundamentally many people in other states who get regular speeding would be charged with reckless driving in VA.
So the same peopel win otehr states have good moral character while the same kind of people in VA do not?

Just bring the court document indicating that you paid fine to interview. Other than that,it's not an issue for naturalization.

This is something I wonder too. I guess they go by federal law?

For example in NV, in many counties prostitution is legal. It is regulated by the police and the state and they pay federal taxes. Yet there is no exemption in the federal questionaree for N400 -maybe someone who worked there should attach documents?

Or for states that accept gay marraige, should a would be citizen add his spouse in the form .

Or in states with medical marijuana laws that allow for medical conditions-is that considered bad moral character.

I guess you get the short end of the stick-if it is state/local or federal crime, you get hit anyways. If it is ok by state laws and against federal-than that means it is not good moral character-very confusing-as long a syou never do anything wrong!

Er, hate to state the obvious, don't break the Law and then none of that comes into play. There is no stick, short or long. :)

It's not that simple.

Not sure if you knew that but by engaging in some sexual activities with your own spouse in privacy of YOUR own bedroom you may be committing a CIMT barring you from naturalization. Don't break the law and none of that comes into play!!

It is said that in Mississipi, interracial marriage is still a serious crime on paper.

I was able to get case information from VA Courts Case Information Online system and printed it out. Which indicates that the fine has been paid. Is this good enough or should I get court certified document. If Yes, should I wait till I get court document before filling N400. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Attach the copy to application and bring the certified court document to interview. You don't have to wait to obtain certified document before you can file.
