N400 - Not received receipt even after one month after filing

All you've suggested is that the OP write the original processing center since you claim CS can't do anything without a receipt number (not true since they can transfer your call to an IO who has more system access) and warned that stopping paying on a lost application can lead to OMB trying to collect the fee if the application is ever found.

My question is if the application was lost, why wouldn't you put a stop payment on the the check since if you are lead to believe it was lost, you're only covering your money in case they do find it let's say 3 months down the road and try to cash the check. How is that wasting money? Not putting a stop payment on the check for a lost application and then sending in another application will be a waste of money if OMB tries to collect the fee afterwards.

Writing the processing center will only add to further delay instead of taking immediate action to determine if the application was truly lost.

Writing the processing center is just delaying things further..at best you can expect a generic answer in 30 days

Either we don't understand each other or you are twisting what I have said.I said and meant because check was not cashed, receipt number has not been assigned so CS or IO can not do anything about it and won't have any information. As you suggested poster called and got zero help.Right? Now if there is not any receipt number to refer to, how you suggesting to proof that called numerous time and determined that application was lost and it is not up to applicant to make that determination and that's why USCIS justify it to collect the fee.
My suggestion basically was to try to bring to attention of center you send the application and try to find it because again you can not determine if the application is lost because simply does not work your timeline and does not work this way with USCIS. They do not work in applicant's desired time line and with CIS you should know by now that they are always right no matter what and found application will be called delayed application not lost as we call it and fee will be due on the time application is found and resume processing.
Generally, applicant needs to pick his battle, try to find the application and save some money, re-file and pay fees again and catch up with time or just wait for the outcome not ruushing it or spending more money, But in my opinion calling CS or IO had no helpful result and stopping payment not only does not help but makes it complicated. If USCIS is consistant in their processing, this is what I belive will happen and there is not any manual for this and if there is I am not aware of it, othervise I would copy, paste it here and all I said is based on similar thing happened to someone who I know. I hope I am wrong and it does not happen in this case.

SRINIRAOV, I have same Case..
-----------------

Sent N400 on 09/21/2009
Received by USCIS 09/22/2009
Check Cased : not yet
its over 30 days now.....I have called today talk to IO he asked my A# and and then verified Address, date of birth then he told me that my case was received on 09/22/2009 and Receipt issued on 10/16/2009. he also gave me receipt number like: NBC*000...

so in your case it may be little delay but don't stop payment..if you think it was received by USCIS then you will get receipt soon..

Could you find out the reason of the delay? or this might be the new timeline for cashing check now since it did not only happened to Srinirov.

IO didn't gave me detail but on second call they said it happen on case by case basis based on GC date.

he told me specifically because my GC date is 12/12/2004 and giving me early receipt/finger print will put me on hold until i finish 5 year period.

if someone with already completed 5 year will get receipted immediately.

..I said and meant because check was not cashed, receipt number has not been assigned so CS or IO can not do anything about it and won't have any information.
And I'm saying that speaking with an IO can possibly get you information even if you don't have a receipt number. kmunna's post proves what I've said.
As you suggested poster called and got zero help.Right?
Op spoke with a rep, not an IO.
Now if there is not any receipt number to refer to, how you suggesting to proof that called numerous time and determined that application was lost and it is not up to applicant to make that determination and that's why USCIS justify it to collect the fee.
Not sure what you are trying to say here..it's poorly written.
My suggestion basically was to try to bring to attention of center you send the application and try to find it because again you can not determine if the application is lost because simply does not work your timeline and does not work this way with USCIS.
If the majority of the applications are receipted within 30 days, an applicant should be concerned that their application is lost if USCIS can't confirm receipt and/or check hasn't been cashed.
Anyways, enough said. No point arguing this any further.

yes, when i got retuned package with check in two piece. they also sent Notice with Priority date and Receipt Number and asked me to resubmit everything but it was Recept Type: Rejection Notice

so not sure if my receipt number will remain same or get new number.

I applied on 1st October. USCIS got my application on 5th and sent a receipt immediately. My checks were cashed on 9th and I got receipt notice for me and my wife on 12th October. Then on 19th My wife's case showed RFE online and she got her fingerprint notice on 23rd October. However, my case status has not been updated yet. It is October 28 today and I don't understand why my case should take more time than my wife? Anybody in the same boat or any idea why this could be happening?

Is it possible for my status to not change but still get a finger printing notice? Has that happened to anybody? Or is the system very accurate these days?

Application can be rejected by USCIS if write a cheque to

Hi, I sent my N400 application and my wife's N4 application together thru UPS on Sep 15th 2009. I got the confirmation thru UPS tracking number that they delivered the application at 1820 E Skyharbor Circle S, Phoenix, AZ on Sep 18th 2009. But so far I did not get any receipt from USCIS and the checks are also not encashed. It is now one month passed. I tried to call customer service number, but could not able to reach any person. Can some one advise, how can I track my application ? Thanks, Srini

in my case, I have sent my wife's n400 application on May 17 2010. 28 days later when my cheque was not cashed and I haven't recieved NOA, I contacted USCIS to know about the status of my wife case. I was told that my wife's n400 application is rejected for a reason that my cheque was written to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, instead of Department of homeland Security (whatta bull crap). I was also told that the N400 packet I have sent is been returned and I should recieve it by June 15, 2010 but so far I haven't recieved it yet. It is bull crap because it is specifically written in N400 current version of instructions form that cheque must be written to Department of homeland Security or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services which I did.
It sounds like USCIS using delaying tactics and intentionally creating a hardship for people like me.
