N400, how far do you disclose? HELP!

Hello all,

So I have two traffic tickets. Both minor, but I decided to disclose on my application.

Problem is: One of them was for taking an illegal turn, but also included driving without proof of insurance at the time I received the ticket (I was not arrested or finger printed and was let go on my way).

Then I submitted the proof of insurance which I did not have on me at the time of the ticket and that portion of the fine was waved. Yet, it still shows on the description of the ticket when I checked the records.

Question is: When I disclose this ticket, do I mention the no proof of insurance portion, or just the main ticket I was fined for (the illegal turn).

My fear is that if I mention the proof of insurance bit, it will cause more trouble and drags the IO to ask for further paperwork trace which there is none (I showed them the proof of insurance when paying and they just omitted the portion of the fine)..... Yet again, since there is mention of it on the ticket record, would the IO (if they had knowledge of this) hold that against me for lack of good moral and not disclosing in detail? How deep and detailed does the FBI check go?

Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thank you in advance.
 
Disclose both tickets. Documentation is not required if the tickets were for minor traffic violations and penalties were under $500 each time.
 
Go ahead and disclose it all, USCIS will disregard it anyway but being honest makes you look good.

Well, the illegal turn is what is described in the offense field. That is the main ticket. Having no proof of insurance was just a box pre-printed on the ticket and was checked.

So it is all one ticket.

A. If I mention the illegal turn, wouldn't that be disclosing the ticket. Then maybe get into more detail during the interview?

B. If I were to go into the details in my N-400, the field on the table allows you up to like 6 words then it is full. If I were to disclose both the illegal turn and the proof of insurance bit, I would definitely need an attachment.. Then wouldn't that be making a big deal out of it for myself?

No need to be TOO detailed on the form. You have ample opportunity to discuss it during the interview IF the IO asks you about it. Otherwise, let it be. In the first box, make it clear that they were traffic incidents, and you're good.

Merely write "traffic ticket(s)". Explain at interview IF asked about it. Hint, they will ask if it was a DUI or if anyone was injured or killed. When you explain, the Officer will make a little tick mark and/or maybe a couple of words of comment on the form and move on. IF the Officer is new (or an idiot) they MIGHT ask for proof of payment etc... If you have it already, bring it with you.
