Hi,

I live in NJ and had an at fault accident in NY.

Here is what happened:

I hit the car in front of me at the traffic light and the car infront of me hit the car infront of it. Cop came and ask me the reason for the hit and I said that I hit the accelerator by mistake instead of break which caused this accident. He wrote everything and told all of us go and told us to go to nearest police station after 3 days to get the copy of the report for the insurance. He did not give me any ticket. I went to the station after few days, got the copy of the report and faxed over to my insurance.

I Sent my N400 a week ago and I didn't mention this because I was not arrested and no ticket. Do I have to mention this in the interview? If yes! what documentation I should carry. All I have is the copy of the report I received from the station by paying 50C.

Please let me know.

Thank You
CM

If it was a fender bender for which you were at fault you can mention it interview, but such minor traffic offenses are not used to determine your moral character determination for immigration purposes.

No arrests were made and no tickets were issued? Why would you even bother mentioning this accident at the interview? Nowhere on the N-400 does it ask you to mention any vehicular accidents.

If you did not get a ticket, then it is simple a civil matter between you and
the owner of the car you hit. I think you don't have to mention it at all
for imigration and natualization purpose

Unless you think you indeed made an offense and you want to answer Yes
to that question (Question 15) :"Have you EVER commiiteda crime or offense for whuch you were not arrested".

No Ticket, but the insurance company involved. The car infront of me was totalled and my insurance paid him and to the other driver infront of him for minor bumber damage.

I guess, I should just say NO in the interview if the officer asks about any arrests, citations, am I right!

Thank You

I believe that question refers to committing a crime/offense and getting away with it. Besides, an accident is just that...an accident. It's not an offense.

Yes, like murdering your obnoxious neighbor and never being arrested for it.:D

Depending on how obnoxious the neighbor was, the murder could be construed as a favor to society, as opposed to an offense! :D

If OJ Simpson were not a citizen, do you think he could still apply for citizenship and would not be deported? He never plead guilty
and was found not guilty so he never was convicted. But most of people think he did it.

If he applied prior to his recent armed burglary conviction in Las Vegas, he would most definitely be approved. Being charged with a crime does not automatically bar an individual from naturalization, regardless of what the charge is. However, a murder conviction results in a lifetime bar, not to mention deportation.

Hi there - I have a similar situation. Wondering if you disclosed it and was it brought up during the interview? How did you answer it?
Thanks in advance. Would really appreciate a response.
