N-400 taking a log time. What to do?

Here is my timeline:

05/27/2009: N400 Received at the National Benefits Center
06/19/2009: Biometrics notice date
07/06/2009: Biometrics taken
08/13/2009: Interview Document Checklist/ Yellow Letter

After the yellow letter - nothing. Online case status says they received my application. Customer service representative on the phone reads the online case status message.

My case isn't particularly complicated: I have an unusual name - name check should be easy. No arrests. No connection to hot spots around the world.

What is the next logical step for me? Is it appropriate to ask for a supervisor/next person up the hierarchy on the phone? Should I make an infopass appointment? Should I call my congressman?

Or is this kind of wait not that unusual?

Have you exceeded the processing time of your local DO? If so, then start with an infopass appointment.

Do the local times matter if my application is at the national benefits center?

N400 ASAP,
I am in the same boat, I submitted my fingerprints more than 3 months ago and I received the yellow letter more than 2 months ago and I am still waiting for the IL. My case is clean and straightforward and my last name is not very popular... I called numerous times at the 800 number and I always get the same response, they all say my case is fine and in process at the NBC location and that I have to wait. The processing time for my local office is 5 months and I am just 3 weeks shy.
Today, I called the 800 number again and this time the officer submitted a service request for me. I don't know what that is, but he said I will be contacted within the next 45 days to get an update on my case.
Also, there was a recent online LUD change in my 485 case and somebody on another thread told me that this could mean that my file is getting ready to be sent to my local office and the next step would be the interview scheduling. I am hoping that this is true.

you should make a infopass apointment right now to your local office to ask them what is going on .you may get a answer from them.or they will tell you what to do next .hope helps!!! good luck!

I went to 2 infopass appts and it did not help, nor did it help calling the 800 number until today. Hopefully this service request will make them investigate a little...

Hi Maria_1,
I was wondering if the delay in your case could be related to locating your A# file.
I read on some other thread about somebody mentioning this.
I did a research on internet and found that USCIS sometimes loses track of the A# files when it is requested by different offices (offices can be one of Service centers, District offices, National Benefit Center and other unknowns).
I was wondering if your Permanent residency(I485) was approved by a service center or DO which is different from your current jurisdiction offices. For example if the I485 was approved by California Service center/San Diego DO and your current DO is Chicago then it is possible that your A# file would have moved around various offices and may be lost in the process.

These are just my thoughts.

Thanks

Thanks abcd..!
That's a good point. I didn't think of that before. My I485 was approved in Chicago and I think all the forms were sent to Nebraska and now my N 400 was sent to NBC in Lees Summit, MO... Honestly, I don't know what to think anymore. All other Chicago cases seem to be processed on time except mine. There is a thread call Chicago timeline where you can see that everybody is getting their interview within 3 to 4 months of their PD.

Hi Maria_1,
I cannot think of any other reason for your delay.
It is my belief that there could be a delay in locating your A# file.
If there is namecheck/background check pending then USCIS (after multiple phone calls to IO) will notify about it.
Thanks

I recently sent my N400 form to Uscis and forgot to attach the photos with the form. The notice says my case is with National Benefits Center, however when I check the processing times

Spiderman03 and Smartspider both from Chicago DO had to wait for a long time to get their interview scheduled. You should ask for their advice as to what happened with their case and what they did. Goodluck.

Thanks Guju! I am following the spiders' cases, I am about 12 days apart with regards to spiderman03. I think he got his IL on 12/12 and a LUD update on his N400 on 12/11. Based on this, I should be getting an IL this week, but I doubt this will be the case....
I scheduled an infopass appt for the first week of January. If nothing happens until then, I will go to this appt to see if I can get some answers...

Amsterdamcourt, you won't see the any processing time for the N400 at NBC, you should check the processing time that corresponds to your local office.

I am also in the same boat

Application sent 9/9/09

FP Done 10/7/09

Nothing after that, online status still says RFE

DO - Charleston, SC

My spouse and me had filed together, till the FP stage everthing came together, Spouse rcvd IL and the ID is 1/14/10.

I have not called the USCIS because I have some important travel plans
in Jan and donot want the ID to be my travel dates.

Timeline:

9/9/09 - Application sent (both me and spouse)
10/7/09 - FP Done (both)
11/12/09 - YL only for spouse
11/18/09 - IL only for spouse - ID 1/14/10

I don't know what the processing times are for Charleston, but the minimum is 5 months. I would suggest you to follow up with them in February. I called sooo many times and it was always worthless, except for one time this week where the first level officer submitted a service request (whatever that is). We are one month apart. I will keep you updated on how my case goes. Hopefully, I'll get some good news before the end of the year....

Still the same, no change.

I have not made any calls yet to USCIS.

Will wait for another week and see.
