N-400 taking a log time. What to do?

N 400 ASAP/ GC2USC - any news?

I have NONE, unfortunately :-(

My suggestion is to contact Senator Dick Durbin's office and get their help if you don't hear from USCIS by next week. I did the same. Don't know if their email to USCIS helped me but I got interview scheduled within a week of contacting them. Dick Durbin is majority whip, a powerful senator and close to President Obama. His profile should mean something right?

Good advice. In addition, I'd suggest that you also write to the other Illinois Senator (Roland Burris) and to the member of the U.S. House of Representatives for your district and ask for their help as well. All members of Congress have staff for helping with constituent requests and USCIS responds to congressional inquiries fairly promptly and more honestly than to inquiries from the applicants themselves. I myself had problems both at the I-485 and N-400 stages and in both cases the only way I was able to get substantive information was through congressional inquiries (I also tried INFOPASS, service requests, phone calls etc and they were all fairly useless). I am also from Illinois and in fact my I-485 problem was solved, after being in limbo for 2 years, only after the intervention of senator Durbin's office.

Thanks guys, I might try that route in a week or so. You have all convinced me of doing so. I am not sure if I have their contact info, so I might ask you for that.
I am just going to give it a couple more weeks... that LUD change on my I485 is somehow keeping me hopeful.
Vip 1R - I don't know why I got this LUD on my GC, but I saw other cases here where they have this LUD and after a few days, the case is transfer to their local office and then scheduled for an interview.
Thanks for all your support!!

Hi Maria_1,
I was wondering if the delay in your case could be related to locating your A# file.
I read on some other thread about somebody mentioning this.
I did a research on internet and found that USCIS sometimes loses track of the A# files when it is requested by different offices (offices can be one of Service centers, District offices, National Benefit Center and other unknowns).
I was wondering if your Permanent residency(I485) was approved by a service center or DO which is different from your current jurisdiction offices. For example if the I485 was approved by California Service center/San Diego DO and your current DO is Chicago then it is possible that your A# file would have moved around various offices and may be lost in the process.

These are just my thoughts.

Thanks

Hi everyone: is this true? Our 485 was approved by a totally different DO than our citizenship. We are scheduled for interview in a month but there has been no LUD change to our 485 status (it shows the same 2005 date). Is this unusual given that our files are supposed to be transferred for interview? Does this mean there will be an issue in carrying through our interviews?

Thanks

K

Hello: can anyone take a moment to respond to me please? I guess after waiting for so long for this moment, everything is making me edgy.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Don't know why you are concerned with I-485 LUD for citizenship. I saw some I-485 LUD's change even before someone filed N-400. Nobody knows what exactly happens internally with USCIS. If your N-400 LUD changed for interview and you received IL, then everything is fine. Just focus on the interview and hope to finish the imigration journey. After USCIS changed the interview scheduling procedure last year, it is very rare these days to schedule interview without A# file in hand by NBC.

Called Customer Service today, the response as expected was standard
the application is within the 5 months processing time, so I have to wait
till 5 months are over before I call again.

Time line:

9/9/09 Application sent
10/7/09 FP done

I might have some good news after all. I called USCIS today and a 2nd level IO told me that the records showed that today somebody is working on placing me in queue for an interview. This is the first time I hear this and I am really excited... I hope it's true :-)
