Hey I used my lawyer friend to file. I just spoke to an INS officer(got passed the first line of defense):). The officer told me that I might NOT get a receipt letter, but rather my attorney would. Anybody in this situation?? If you used an attorney did you get a receipt letter or did your attorney??

Also, he gave my receipt number. It starts as nbc*. Do you include the star to check the online status?? I keep trying and it says it cannot find my case. They received my paperwork on December 28. Is it just to early to check online yet?

If the attorney filled out the application as your representative, then the lawyer will get receipt letter.

All N400 applications get NCB* receipt numbers (irrespective to where you send your application), and you include * when you try to check your status online.

The '*' is an important part of the JCL that is used to retrieve your case's status, so make sure to put it in there :D

You get an NBC*xxxxxxxxx number as the case begins processing at the center, then your file, etc move to your local office for interview, etc.

As for the online status, since the system is moving pretty fast these days it may not reflect current status.

JCL ... I know where you are coming from, but how do you know the technology they are using?
