I applied N400 in Aug 11 and got biometrics done on Aug 24. When I checked case status, Oct 15 they will send a letter spcifying the date and place of interview for citizenship. But I will be going over to India on Oct24 for certain family emergencies. N400 being pending for me, can I post pone the date of interview. Right now I have not yet received the letter. However as I mentioned when I checked the case status they said a letter will be sent.

Without this letter can I send a letter to USCIS to postpone the citizenship interview schedule without the actual receipt of the interview letter? Do I need to wait till I receive the same. Please help as I have to leave within 8 days.

Or if I get the letter is it possible to request USCIS to have the interview done before I leave for India? Is it first possible?

Pl respond ASAP

Thanks
Kumar

USCIS will never agree for early interview. They will follow their set routine

Postponing interview is possible. You have to wait till you get the interview letter. If you leave for India before IL arrives, you have to have someone check your mail and inform you about date of interview. If the date is not suitable, you could send a letter addressed to USCIS requesting postponement and mail it your contact person. He can put that letter and interview letter in a cover and mail it to USCIS. ( Better still prepare a letter before you leave for India and leave it with the person who will be checking your mail.)

Be prepared to wait for sometime for rescheduling of your interview.

Also, remember to ask the interviewer to update the N400 form with your most recent India trip, and keep proof if it just in case (boarding pass stubs if passport isn't stamped).
