N-400 at VSC

Hi Nico,

That's a bummer ...

But I am very skeptic about the answer the customer guy gave you, because...
1. If he tried to find your case status online, its probably not there yet. i tried mine a few minutes ago and its not there yet.
2. They already encashed your check so your application should be filed..

Heres something you can try..
From your check image (from online banking) can you see an ESC followed by 7 digiit number. when you convert that to ESC*00(7digit nummber) - in all making it a 13 digit number that will be your Application nummber. So just add *-zero-zero between the ESC and the 7 digit number and you will end up with yur application number.

Maybe the cust service guy confused the 10 digit number (ESC+7) as your application number and hence gave you that answer.

I still think you should get your letter soon.

Hope it works out..

Hi Veejay!

Yeah, the customer service guy and I played around with the hand written numbers to no avail. After I had given him my A number, he could locate an N-400 petition tied to it. He said from what his records showed, they have not done anything to it.

The front of my check displays two sets of numbers. It looks exactly like this:

ESCxxxxxxx
xxxxx

The first line is meaningless and does not show up anywhere. It starts with 155. Not even USCIS knows what that one is good for.

If I use ESC*0015xxxxx (for the x using the second line of numbers) it does not track under case status, but it shows up as an N-400 application under "my portfolio" and states "last updated 01/26/2006".

USCIS could not find anything tied to that number.

What made him wonder was that normally, once they cash the check, they create the electronic record the same day or a day thereafter. This way, so he said, the case would show up as "entered" in their system. He agreed that the online tracking status available via USCIS was useless for a few days or a week after the actual receipt notice.

He at least tried. He said that the moment anything is entered in Vermont or any other Service Center, he can access it via the applicant's A number. He said he did not even need to know the form or receipt number.

Bottom line: His guess was they did something with my application, but it had not been properly receipted.

Well, I faxed and FedExed a letter to VSC's director explaining the situation. Let us see what happens.

Oh well...I smell trouble and a long, long process. If I was only more patient ;-). I will keep ya posted...

Cheers,
Nico

Guys
I filed my application on Jan 17th and have received a receipt notice on feb 2nd. I can't seem to find the status of the case online. How do you get the manual response when calling the customer service center?

Does anyone have any experiences with online case status checking?

Thanks in advance.
best wishes to everyone

LegalAlien99,

Heres my status ..

Jan 17th - Mailed N400 by USPS Priority mail with Delivery Conf.
Jan 20th - Recd at VSC (checked by usps tracking #)
Jan 27th - Checks cashed as per online banking (Check image shows cashed on 1/24/06)

Hope your checks are cleared too..

Hi Veejay!

Did they actually receive the 400 bucks on 1/24/06 or is that just the date they sent the check to your bank? On what date did the 400 bucks actually leave your account? I am just playing through a few scenarios what might cause the problems regarding my receipt notice. As you remember, they submitted my 400 dollar check on the 24th of January (internally, USCIS marked it 01/23/06) but it was not actually paid - meaning the money leaving my account - until 01/26/06.

Best,
Nico

Hi Nico,

The check showed up in my account on 1/26. On the check USCIS has marked (hand written) 1/24. The money was taken from my account on 1/26.

Hope your issues get resolved soon..

Thanks buddy! Yup, so I should have received my notice as well. My check says 1-23-06 hand written and came out of my account on 1/26 as well. Weird! At this point, my guess is they messed something up during data entry. The customer service guy found an N-400 under my A number plus they cashed the check..at least they got it LOL.

I don't expect an answer to my fax/FedEx letter to VSC before the end of February. It is really frustrating... .

Best,
Nico

Hi y'all!

Here is the latest on my VSC N-400:

Using some non bureaucratic channels, I was able to receive some additional information regaring my N-400 up at the Vermont Service Center. The do have it up there and they last worked on it on February 2nd. My contact was not able to track it in detail but at least the important issues have been somewhat clarified: a) they do have it at VSC and b) they are processing it.

We will see if they send me an official receipt notice. He said that they sometimes "forget" to send it and the first thing applicants received was the FP notice.

I will keep you all posted... .

Cheers,
Nico

For those who have been following my thread:

I have one word to say about VSC: RIDICULOUS!

I still have not gotten my receipt notice!! What a stellar performance on behalf of VSC/USCIS... .

Oh, I got a call from my USCIS contact. Here is what apparently happened: They misplaced my application when it arrived at VSC and did not get to it until January 23rd, the day my check was processed by USCIS. Also, my PD is now January 23rd...he said I should receive a notice in a week or two...yeah...believe it, when I see it.

Cheers,
Nico

LegalAlien99,

My priority date is Jan 23rd as well and I got the receipt notice a week ago! So you should have gotten it too. Better check with them again.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your e-mail. The problem is, that VSC does not seem to have created the electronic record, or whatever it is that they do. All the 1.800 number folks can tell me that there is an N-400 pending @ VSC under my A number, that it was received 01/23/06 (the day they also cashed the check), and that VSC did some kind of processing on 02/02/06. The reps at USCIS' 1.800 number cannot track anything else and can't even locate a receipt number. All of that stuff has apparently not been entered by VSC so far.

I already faxed and FedExed a letter to the director of VSC explaining the situation. I will also give my buddy a call who is a USCIS DO Director (unfortunately not the Wash, D.C. one) to see if he can call VSC to find out what the heck is going on up there.

Considering that it has been VSC's self-proclaimed priority to expeditiously receipt incoming I-485s and N-400s, they are not performing too well at times.

What a fiasco... .

Best,
Nico
